Hello,

I am hoping someone can help.

Our store speed is running so slow.

I have checked some details but I do not know how to fix.

I have reached out to some app developers as think coding is still on site but no one is getting back to me.

Any help gratefully received.

thank you

Vicki

Hi Vicki,

There are several ways you can improve the page speed of your store. Here are a few tips:

  1. Optimize images: Large images can slow down your page loading times, so make sure to optimize your images by reducing their size without compromising on quality. You can use tools like TinyPNG or Compressor.io to compress your images.
  2. Enable lazy loading: Lazy loading is a technique that loads images on a page only when they are visible to the user. This can help improve your page speed by only loading the content that the user can see, instead of loading the entire page at once.
  3. Minimize the use of external scripts: External scripts, such as JavaScript libraries and social media widgets, can add significant weight to your page and slow down its loading times. Try to minimize the use of external scripts and only use them if they are necessary for your website.

Overall, improving the page speed of your store requires a combination of optimization techniques and tools. You can experiment with different approaches and see which ones work best for your store.

Hello, thank you for you super fast response.

I have completed 1 and 2 but still incredibly slow especially on mobile.

Owl Carousel v2.3.3 Just

Just noticed the above is running on the site and no idea what is it or how to remove.

thanks again.

Owl Carousel will most probably power your hero sections for making slides/carousels. It depends on the theme developers, they may have loaded this script without making sure if its even required or not.

Unfortunately, you'll have to dig in to the code yourself or hire an expert to do it for you. Or better, find a more robust theme that focuses on speed optimization as their core feature.

thank you, may I ask you another questions.

Do all images even ones loaded for use in email marketing on shopify platform use space and slow down the store.

We have lots of images loads for marketing emails but not store assets.

Many thanks

Vicki

Vicky, only the images visible on the page have impact on your speed performance. Any images you upload to the backend but not in use on the frontend for examples, images used in emails, or images uploaded but then never used or replaced with new ones; all these won't have any impact on the store speed performance.

Even the images on your product page has impact on the product page only, it has no negative effect on the home or other pages.

I hope that's clear.

Following tips will help you significantly speed up your Shopify store.

1. Image compression is important and a necessity for faster loading web pages. Make sure your images are of good quality and do not add too many images on a single page. You can try some tool like TinyJPG
2. Minimize broken links and redirects - Avoid unnecessary Redirects and fix broken links
3. Using slideshow, which are high-quality images combined with transitions, take time to load when the user clicks the link to the homepage. So instead you can use a single high-quality hero image.
4. Always choose a theme that is responsive, fast, and takes minimal time to load the page
If you choose a theme with numerous sliders, fancy animations, advanced navigation systems, etc., will affect your page speed. If your theme is loading slow, consider disabling the theme features you don't need.
5. To reduce the initial load time, you can use Lazyload technique
6. Remove all unwanted Shopify Apps which you are not using
You should disable app features you don't use, or you can remove the app if you don't need it. If you are removing an app make sure to remove code that was added as part of the app install process.
7. Replace GIFs with static images
8. You can run the Shopify Theme Inspector for Chrome to identify the lines of code that are slowing down pages in your online store.
9. Use minified CSS and JS files
10. Avoid unnecessary redirects and fix broken links

The number one thing you can do if you have a lot of unused javascript loaded from 3rd party apps, is to block the javascript on specific pages. You can do so by using our app  https://apps.shopify.com/pagespeed-javascript for a lot of stores the results are quite good
