Good question! Although I cannot tell from the screenshot you shared which theme it is, it does look like it might be one of Shopify's own themes. In our themes, and most themes I have seen that have these navigation buttons, there is no option of hiding these without coding changes, although usually you can change the look of the navigation controls. There might be someone in the community here who can assist with changing the coding for this section, although for this they will need more info about which theme you are using.
Alternatively, there are several apps that will allow you to buy individual sections and even have them custom designed, so you will likely be able to find a section that will allow you to have a slideshow without these navigation controls. Usually these sections are about a tenner, so they are a perfect way to cheaply customize your theme.
