okay great that worked! one more thing, do you know why it doesnt update the number of items in cart unless you click on the cart? 

I have... heres what i did

for some reason it only works when i add something to cart, then go to cart, then remove the item. thats the only  time it shows up

no, I put a custom code. if you add an item to the cart then refresh you will see it updates
