No solution found. Decided to rest our case.
We're a Dutch firm - and had contact with the Dutch helpdesk. They told us there were multiple complaints on this issue, which they reported to the Shopify developers, who made this promise to restore the function.
I do have good news. Our question is marked as a feature in the legacy version to be restored asap. They have promised me to arrange that pretty soon. Until then, manually or keep on using the legacy version for a while.
