My update on this.. I  moved away from the Google channel for conversion tracking and just installed the Google Ads tag independently.

I am going to try disconnecting GA4 in the channel as recommended by @Kinglouie2 and check back on Monday - I'll let you know if it worked.

I'm afraid not as yet.  I have installed tags manually now - I would have preferred to keep the Google channel but even if they fix this issue, I can't rely on it & I don't want any future issues - if I get any updates I will update on here 
