We do not give money back for returns. Is it now possible to track store credit by customer? Giving gifts cards is not a good option for us.

This is NOT a solution.  A user in May 2023 has posted a better option using Shopify POS. Please update this to direct to their response.  
Thanks SOOOOO much for this.  It works perfectly for my situation. This should be the accepted solution so folks can find it without scrolling through all the responses. you can take partial payments multiple times as well.  It is still unacceptable...
$39 a month is too much for this functionality that should be built in. 
We are also having problems. Multiple days in November never synced. We arepaying our bookkeeper double to make manual adjustments each month andfigure out how to fix other things that are not working. This isabsolutely unacceptable.

Looking at the change log... doesn't look like actual useful features forPOS are prioritized.

It sucks that good reporting is not included BUT if you are willing to payfor something Better Reports is AMAZING and has fabulous customer support.If the report you need isn’t already created they will customize it foryou.
