I am planning to open a company in Estonia and have an online shop that sells products in Italy.
I'll use Shopify and Oberlo, so most of the products will be shipped from China.
Estonia told me that I'll have to declare the IVA (VAT) to Italy, but I won't be able to apply any IVA, given that will be the supplier sending directly to the customer.
Has anyone a similar situation?
This is the message I've received:
If your Estonian company sells physical goods and does not have “taxable sales revenue in Estonia” (the physical goods you are selling, are not sold inside Estonia or the physical goods you are selling are never physically in the Estonian territory) then you will not be liable to register for VAT in Estonia. Most likely you will have to register your Estonian company for VAT purposes in the country where you will be storing/selling your goods (Italy). Therefore we strongly advise you to check with Italian tax authorities or tax consultant what are the requirements and thresholds for VAT registration.
Hi @alessiodisalvo! Gabby here from the Community Engagement team at Spocket.
It's been quite a while since you posted this and you might have figured this out already. In any case, I'd still be happy to give my insights.
I'm not sure of Oberlo's tax policies, but on Spocket, it's usually the supplier who works on adding the extra charges (tax, customs fees). What specific products from Italy are you selling? We have quite a number of Italian suppliers on our platform so you might want to check Spocket out. You can sign-up for free to access the catalog and search for Italian suppliers using our smart filters - just head on over to Spocket's official website.
Going back, if you decide to be a member and import a product from an Italian supplier, once you process the order, the supplier will work on the rest of the processes for you - in this context adding the tax for the products when they ship the item to the customer.
Here's an article and a video from our Help Center and Youtube channel that explains taxes and how order fulfillment works:
basically on spocket it's usually the supplies who works or adding tax, customers.
