16,248 impressions 8,586 clicks 52.84% ctr 3500 sessions on store in one day and not one add to cart

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner ran a TikTok campaign that generated exceptional engagement metrics—16,248 impressions, 8,586 clicks (52.84% CTR), and 3,500 website sessions in one day—yet received zero add-to-cart actions.

Key Issues Identified:

  • TikTok support encountered 404 errors when testing the landing page link, possibly due to dynamic URL parameters (e.g., CAMPAIGN_ID) that may not resolve correctly
  • TikTok Pixel fires PageView events successfully but fails to track Add to Cart or Purchase events
  • Product catalog sync issues: items show as out of stock unless manually pushed, which redirects traffic to TikTok-hosted listings instead of the actual Shopify store

Current Status:

  • The store owner confirmed the URL loads fine with test parameters and TikTok support found no pixel issues
  • Using a heavily customized imported theme that cannot update, raising concerns about potential interference with ad tracking
  • TikTok reported 2 add-to-carts, but the owner only saw their own test events

Suggested Next Steps:

  • Refine page layout and targeting precision
  • Continue using direct product links instead of catalog sync
  • Investigate whether the custom theme affects tracking integration

Hey everyone — looking for advice because I’ve been stuck on this for a while and can’t seem to get a straight answer.

I’m running a Shopify store and had a campaign with great numbers on TikTok:
16,248 impressions, 8,586 clicks (52.84% CTR), and 3,500 actual sessions on my website in one day.
But despite that, I didn’t get a single Add to Cart — not even one.

Here’s what I’ve done and what I’ve noticed:

  • The landing page link works perfectly for me when I click it directly or preview the ad.

  • But TikTok support tested the link and got a 404 error. It seems like TikTok is appending dynamic URL parameters like CAMPAIGN_ID or CAMPAIGN_NAME, and those may not be resolving properly.

  • My TikTok Pixel is firing correctly and detecting events — but only PageView shows up, no Add to Cart or Purchase events ever trigger.

  • I’ve also had issues using product catalogs. Every time I try to sync my product, it shows as out of stock unless I push it manually. But doing that breaks the link between the TikTok product page and my real Shopify product page, and all the traffic gets routed to the TikTok-hosted product listing instead of my website.

Because of that, I’ve stuck to using direct product links instead of catalog-connected products. But now I’m unsure what’s actually being shown to people, and whether it’s the root of my conversion issues.

Has anyone run into something like this? Any idea if dynamic parameters could be interfering with page loading or analytics? Or what the best setup is if I want to run ads to my real product page and not the TikTok Shop version?

Would love to hear how others got around this — thanks in advance.

Hi @Aerochef ,

Your 404 issue is likely due to TikTok’s dynamic URL parameters. Test your product URL with ?test=1 — if it breaks, fix your theme or app to ignore unknown parameters.

Pixel issue: If only PageView fires, Add to Cart isn’t set up right. Use TikTok’s Event Tester and check Pixel setup in Shopify > Settings > Customer events.

Avoid TikTok catalog if it’s causing stock/link issues — stick to direct product links.

I tried that and it doesn’t break it loads fine, and the tiktok support person said their was no issues with the pixel either. It could be the way I have my site layed out that just makes it not attractive, but I do think it looks great. And my ads did amazing but no add to carts, they said their was 2 add to carts but that doesn’t make sense because I didn’t see them, I only seen the test ones I did. Definitely could of missed them in the tests so I don’t want to disprove that. Maybe just edit a couple things on the page and try to target more precise eh?

I also have an imported theme that cant update and was from a person online and I changed an immense amount of things in it. I’m not sure but could it be messing with ad connections, is that possible
