Me and my husband decided to invested in a new swimwear brand this year and design and produce our own bikinis line, we launched our Shopify store on on 1st July but are seriously struggling to get any traffic to the site and any sales. We appreciate it’s no longer summer season but we’re not sure what to do to improve this, or whether we just need to be more patient? We need to best prepare for summer 2025.
We invested in good professional photography and have an easy to remember brand name, a good range of designs and colours so there is enough variety and we are prepared to handle a good volume of sales as we have plenty of stock. We’ve had a lot of very positive feedback on Instagram from fashion events and models, and are working with around 20-30 micro influencers who can be seen on our Instagram profile /lucinilondon . Even some celebrities have supported us and posted content wearing our bikinis and we have been given some exciting opportunities to sponsor and take part in some big fashion shows in the UK in 2025. At these shows we’ve been given the opportunity for our bikinis to be showcased and worn by models on catwalks so that could help us gain some good offline exposure.
However we need traffic to the website and we need to make some significant sales in 2025 in order to survive and that’s the challenge we need to overcome as we lack the experience of SEO.
Since August we have tried the following:
Google Ads - invested £1200 + £800 (free credit) running Pmax and Shopping Ad - got zero results, got some clicks to the site but nothing was added to the shopping basket, not even any real subscribers despite offer a welcome discount. We’ve tried understanding why that might be the site works and is user friendly and moving from a product to the basket to checkout seems all fine.
Instagram contest - £600 on a boosted campaign (plus £400 top prize) over 3 weeks partnered with our photography team on Instagram, we got 500 website subscribers and 1000 new followers all women in the UK, but have so far nothing from this has converted.
Weekly newsletter sent to to subscribers with updates, news offers
End of summer sale and now a Black Friday sale up to 40% off sitewide, promoted to followers on IG and via the newsletter
We have an About Us story plus 3 blog articles and we are going to publish a further 3-5 articles over the next 1-2 months. Next year we plan to publish 2 or 3 per month focussed around bikini wearing destinations, activities, accessories, health tips, top 10’s, best of, etc. We are also looking at swimwear themed guest posts as well, but again we lack SEO experience and don’t really know how to gather suitable keywords to compete with other swimwear brands targeting the same traffic so we need to learn how to do this effectively if we are going to spend time writing articles. We did a free trial of SEM rush and got a keyword report on ‘bikinis’ and similar search terms but not many are low, mostly highly competitive. We did this for our main competitors as well and it produced 500 keywords, same issue mostly highly competitive and the low ones we can’t easily see how we can add those keywords into an article to keep it relevant and in context.
We hired an SEM person we met on Fiverr who’s been very helpful he has helped put content on our Pinterest page and also put our URL on 200 sites so far for backlinks which all have an authority score of at least 50 with an average of 75 and often higher. We could continue to do this and get 100 more backlinks like this each month.
How long does it take to start seeing traffic? We likely need at least 1000 clicks per month to start seeing some sales but right now we are averaging 50 clicks per month.
We just need to understand where is best to apply our budget for the type of business we have (bikinis), we think focussing on Facebook and Instagram Ads could be the way forward, but we just don’t know and it’s becoming really challenging.
Any advice to help us at least get off the ground would be really welcome as right now after 5 months we have no idea how we are going to generate enough traffic to generate enough sales to make this business venture work?
