A freelancer from Upwork messed up my Empire theme ~ Need your suggestion !

Hey Guys,

We are trying to customize the Empire theme. We made the design mock-up in Photoshop and hired a freelancer from Upwork.

What we are building is a B2B store with hundreds of different products. We made the product page mock-up. What we need is for the freelancer to make one page with all files we give as a template. Then, later, we only need to upload different product details ( photos/descriptions/parameters ). Here is what we get as the template: : https://vantastek.com/products/vtu002-memory-cards-microsd-and-sd-cards

Now, the freelancer approached this by making all variables ( the product details including sizes and photos, and descriptions ) into meta fields, while leaving the description part in the Shopify backbone empty:

Is this a good approach? In the past, we hired Shopify experts to do a similar job and they mainly give us approaches to the description part directly. We copy paste one product and then change all variables in the description.

We would love to hear what’s your experience. If this is a good approach. We will continue with this freelancer. If not, we might have to go find Shopify expert, which is more expensive..

It’s depend on your mockup designs.
Metafileds are good but it’s complicated to manage for the customer.
It would be great if you can share design, Then I can guide you more which process need to follow.

Hi @FELIX_FAN

Did you ask for a editable product description layout for all product?

If you edit description directly (by copy and paste), your description layout may messed up by some unreadable html code.

Hey Dbuglabpvtltd,

Thanks for getting back! Actually the current product page https://vantastek.com/products/vtu002-memory-cards-microsd-and-sd-cards is already 99% clost to our product page mock up already.

So, we need to around 100 more products. At this moment, the Shopify backbone shows our current store is very slow to load. I thought that was dragged by the meta fields with too many variables.

Attached is a screenshot of our product page Mockup.

So, I guess what I’m trying to do is to ask for a simple evaluation of my freelancer’s work here in the community. I will decide if we continue to hire him or not.

Thanks !
