major issue with css file

A Shopify store owner accidentally deleted a line of code, breaking all their themes and seeking urgent help to restore functionality.
Recommended Solutions:
- Contact theme provider for a fresh, complete theme file
- Revert to older version via Admin → Online Store → Themes → Actions → Edit code, then select “Older versions” next to the affected .liquid file to restore a previous working version
- Contact Shopify Support directly through their Contact Us page after logging into the store (verification required)
Prevention for Future:
- Always duplicate/backup themes before making code edits
- Publish the unedited copy if changes break the site
Additional Context:
- Support staff may retrieve previous versions if using a free theme with remaining complimentary design time
- Screenshots provided show the exact navigation path to access version history and rollback options
Hello @eden73
I’m so sorry to hear that. In my opinion, you should contact the theme provider so they can give you a new theme file. It will be complete and accurate.
Best regards,

Hi @eden73 ,
It sounds like you made an edit to your theme’s code and want to revert it to the older version, is that right?
Depending on the file in question, this can be done by going into your Admin and clicking on Online store > Themes in the lefthand menu. Next to the theme that you edited, click on the Actions dropdown menu and select Edit code:
Then you’ll want to go into the template that you edited and click “Older versions” next to the .liquid file:
This will show you what older versions of the template are available to revert back to:
You can also find these instructions in this guide. To simplify this process in the future, I recommend creating a duplicate of your theme before making edits, allowing you to simply publish the unedited copy of your theme if need be.
Finally, what theme do you use? Assuming your store has enough complimentary design time left, and you are using free theme our team may be able to retrieve this for you.
You can reach out to our Contact Us page on this link. Then log in to your store. It will allow us to verify you as the store owner securely. Once you have successfully logged in, you should be able to reach out to a Support Advisor.
