I was scammed by 2 different stores on your shop application. I made purchases then immediately afterwards both stores shutdown there website, Emails and stores etc… Stores pretty much just took my money and ghosted me. One even took my shop cash I saved up. I understand there are many individual sellers using your platform but there has to be some accountability. To top that off I go to log a complaint and the form keeps telling me both URLs are not right the stores sent me as a recipe. You know other selling platforms usually hold funds till a tracking number is on the way for products sold or they verify who is using there platform to make money.I am disappointed and discussed with the level of effort to make this right. I will make sure I post and tell everyone I know that shopify/shop app runs a fraudulent platform for all kinds of Scammers to steal people’s money! The amount of money your going to loose over this will be way more than anything they got from me! If I have any advice for anyone about this is… Go to a trustworthy platform to make purchases, ebay, Amazon, Walmart, Temu, wish..etc…Also run the other direction from anything with shopify logo on it. Because there not here to help anybody except Scammers to steel your money!
Topic summary
Main issue: A buyer reports being scammed by two stores accessed via the Shop app (Shopify’s consumer shopping app). After placing orders, both stores allegedly shut down their sites, emails, and storefronts, leaving the buyer without goods or contact.
Key details:
- One store allegedly used up the buyer’s Shop Cash (Shop app rewards credit).
- Attempted fraud report failed: the complaint form repeatedly rejected the store URLs as invalid.
- The buyer claims Shopify lacks accountability compared to marketplaces that hold funds until a tracking number is provided or verify sellers (examples cited: eBay, Amazon, Walmart, Temu, Wish).
Outcome/status:
- No confirmation of remediation, refunds, or Shopify response in the thread.
- No evidence provided beyond the buyer’s account; no attachments referenced.
- Discussion is unresolved and focused on the buyer’s frustration and warning others to avoid purchasing via Shopify/Shop app.
Open questions:
- What buyer protections and dispute processes exist on the Shop app?
- How can scam stores be reported if the complaint form rejects URLs?
- What steps can recover funds and Shop Cash in such cases?
