I am creating a new thread as my previous post solution did not work.
We are planning to move from our existing e-commerce to Shopify.
Can you enlighten me if the setup is possible?
Most of our products include different sizes and lengths with unique SKUs.
An example scenario is below.
Product X
SKU-1 -‘diameter 200’ ‘Length 19mm’ ’ Thread M12x124’
SKU-2 -‘diameter 201’ ‘Length 20mm’ ’ Thread M12x125’
SKU-3 -‘diameter 202’ ‘Length 21mm’ ’ Thread M12x126’
SKU-4 -‘diameter 203’ ‘Length 22mm’ ’ Thread M12x127’
Customers can then choose the variant and the system is able to capture the SKU
Question: Are any existing paid templates similar to the scenario?
We will be integrating our Shopify store into our ERP as well.
Thanks!
It’s possible that’s baseline functionality what your describing here and in the other posts.

Orders in the admin contain a line item that is of each variant (see screenshot.
Some themes give an option to display the sku of each variant as it’s selected, some may even show it in collection pages; it’s a mixed bag that takes looking into.
Screenshot, Example of sku shown in a draft order:
If you need to surface the sku more visibly other places in an order you can use either line item properties(LIPs) or cart attributes in theme customizations, or use shopify-flow to tag the order with the skus, etc.

Typically done as hidden properties or cart attributes if they don’t need to show to the customer.
If you need dev store to poke around in, then contact me directly and I can spool one up for you.
Please provide context: store url, theme name, aby post url(s) and any further detail etc.

Hi Paul,
I created a sample store and add two variants with ‘material’ and ‘length’
The issue now is when I choose one variant it does not group by default and I need to manually choose the material and length to enable ‘Add to Cart’
What I would like to achieve is a simple selectable variant that is grouped together.
See attached file
There is no attachment, regardless avoid attaching files creating more hoops when you can paste simple images directly into the post itself.
Front end presentation is a separate concern from the variant/option data in the backed as ultimately the option values that go through on orders will reflect how the item is setup in the product admin.
This is the expected behavior when you have options in most themes.
Grouping all options into one drop down is not advised as customers need to choose what they want . If you’ve never validated flat-option behavior is what customer want it can be a UX antipattern.
It is a customization that be done to themes, research existing forum discussions on “single variant dropdown” ,etc.
If using one of shopifys free themes you may be able to use the courtesy 60 minutes design time to request customizing , contact support directly to confirm. Otherwise you need customization services.
Some themes also have the behavior of automatically selecting the sub options as different options are selected, or done through a customization aka linked-variant-options.

Good hunting.
