Ability to automatically tag a Customer record if it's created through the POS Sales Channel?

Is there a way to be able to identify if a Customer record (not an Order) is created through the POS Sales Channel, instead of through the Online Store or the Admin UI?

We’re looking to be able to delineate between customers that we sign up at pop-ups, trade shows, etc. even if they have never placed an order with us.

Hi @Fur_Ops

Yes – this is possible to automate.

Shopify Flow can handle it on Plus, but it requires building and maintaining a workflow and doesn’t always cover retroactive customers cleanly.

With rule-based tagging apps like AutoTag Pro, you can:

  • Tag customers when they are created via the POS sales channel

  • Or tag them when their first interaction/order comes from POS

  • Apply the rule retroactively to existing customers

  • Keep the tag in sync automatically

This makes it easy to separate event / trade show signups from online customers without manual work.

Hi @Fur_Ops

There are a couple of ways that you can do this.

First, you can use tags. You can manually add a tag like POS_Signup or TradeShow_2026 immediately when creating a profile on the POS. This allows you to easily create a customer segment in the Admin later by filtering for that specific tag.

Or you can always opt for an app for the Shopify App store. Just name what you want the app to do on the Shopify App store search bar and you should be good to go!
