About Signature Removal from Community Posts

Hello @jasonh @Jacqui,

Thank you for all the work you do to keep the Shopify Community active and well-managed.

I wanted to follow up regarding the recent removal of signatures from community posts. As a Shopify Partner, I can say that for many of us, signatures served a very practical and non-promotional purpose — helping merchants quickly identify who we are, what we specialize in, and why our input might be worth considering.

Even when not promoting any services, the presence of a signature built a sense of trust and transparency, especially when we’re volunteering our time and expertise to help merchants navigate their challenges.

Now that this feature has been removed, it’s become noticeably more difficult to establish that same level of visibility and context. It feels like a step back in terms of fostering authentic engagement between merchants and trusted contributors.

If there’s any insight you can provide into the rationale behind this change — whether it was for usability, moderation, or another reason — I’d greatly appreciate it. Understanding the intent will help us align better with the direction the community is headed.

To all Partner members: If you’ve also been impacted by this change or feel this deserves reconsideration, please consider liking and commenting on this post so our collective voice can be heard.

Thanks again, and looking forward to your thoughts.

The signature fostered users who would bulk post in the community with low quality A-I generated content. While I do like having a signature, it has positives and negatives for the community. On the Google Ads community, we also don’t have signatures. However, an unwritten rule is that we are allowed to add our own signature in each post, even links are ok. Which most of us, if not all of us, don’t do. But we do have a subhead under our names. Attached a screenshot of what we have.

In all, I don’t feel heavily impacted. But a sub headline would be a positive, so we can at least say something like in my case. Founder of FeedArmy.

The removal of the signature, in my opinion, will reduce the true volunteers vs posters for pure commercial purposes. Making replies more genuine.

How many times I see posts after I posted, saying exactly the same thing, just so they can have their own link posted, or signature visible. This isn’t very pleasant when follow-up posts don’t contribute towards the original poster.

Hello @EmmanuelFlossie
Thank you so much for your thoughtful response.

@devcoders

It was unexpected!!

Practially says that people are using signature for displaying their personal details that you cannot share in posts like emails, your number and social media details.Ssome are using for promotions for their apps and services. But all are gone.

Profile works as signature for now. This is my opinion. But as I think it is hard to find the personal details of shopify partner for the merchant if he/she want to connect with them. With the signature has attached with every post so Merchant could easily find out.

Now they have to move their profile. This is new system and we will have to wait what the new code of conduct says regarding profile/signature.

But in my opinion they should provide guidelines for signature.

Hello @dmwwebartisan

Thanks for your reply!
You’re absolutely right — it would have been much better if they had provided clear guidelines for using signatures.

Thank you for your feedback regarding signature features!

In lieu of a signature which is often abused, we have opted to use Profile Widgets that offer enhanced connection and engagement features. This allows you to build trust through your profile and achievements. Here’s how it works:

Simply click on any member’s avatar and a pop-up will display their:

  • Customized bio and expertise
  • Community milestones: badges and cheers

Enhanced features for recognition and connection:

  • Follow members to get notifications on their future posts
  • Endorse fellow members for their demonstrated expertise
  • Build toward Category Expert status through member endorsement

These features create more meaningful connections while showcasing your professional presence more effectively than traditional signatures ever could.

However, we do appreciate your feedback and we have passed it along to our team. We believe this solution better serves our community’s needs for professional networking and expertise recognition.

Hello @jasonh

Thank you for the detailed explanation regarding the Profile Widgets. Replacing traditional signatures with these modern features—such as endorsements, badges, and the ability to follow members—truly seems like a thoughtful and effective approach to building trust and fostering professional connections.

I would, however, like to humbly suggest one additional enhancement:
When members leave comments on posts, there should also be an option to display a minimal signature or contact snippet.
Often, someone may find a comment helpful or want to connect directly with the commenter, but needing to visit their profile every time can be a bit inconvenient. A small signature (e.g., name, expertise, or a link) visible right below the comment could help facilitate quicker engagement and support meaningful interactions.

I believe this small addition could significantly improve communication and collaboration within the community.

Thank you once again for considering my feedback and passing it along to your team. I appreciate your openness and commitment to enhancing the platform experience.

I have to agree with this — removing signatures feels like yet another quiet erosion of value for the very partners and contributors who keep this community alive.

For years, the understanding was simple: we give our time, knowledge, and support to merchants for free, and in return, we’re able to maintain a small, transparent identifier that shows who we are and what we represent. It wasn’t obtrusive advertising; it was context. It let merchants decide for themselves whether the advice was credible and whether they wanted to connect further.

Without that, many of us are left wondering what incentive remains to spend hours helping merchants here, especially when Shopify has increasingly centralized attention on its own paid channels and solutions. The removal of signatures might seem like a small change on the surface, but it chips away at the trust and goodwill that have historically made the Community valuable.

If Shopify truly wants to encourage authentic engagement, transparency, and collaboration, then this decision should be revisited. Otherwise, we risk ending up with a forum where fewer experienced partners are motivated to contribute — and that benefits no one, least of all the merchants this community is meant to serve.
