Hello Shopify Team,
I recently had an idea for a new feature that I believe could be extremely useful for Shopify merchants, especially dropshipping businesses.
I would like to suggest a dedicated “Shopify Dropshipping Wallet” combined with a Multi-Currency Wallet and Currency Exchange System.
- Shopify Dropshipping Wallet
The basic idea is that when a customer places an order and pays for a product, the payment could become available inside the merchant’s Shopify Wallet.
For example:
Customer pays: $50
Supplier/product cost: $30
Merchant gross profit: $20
When the order is placed with the connected dropshipping supplier, Shopify could automatically deduct the $30 supplier cost from the wallet and use it to fulfill the order.
The remaining $20 gross profit would stay in the merchant’s wallet.
This would make the entire dropshipping process much easier because merchants would not have to manually manage customer payments, supplier payments and profits separately.
- Multi-Currency Wallet
The wallet could also support multiple currencies.
For example, customers could pay in:
- USD
- PKR
- INR
- EUR
- GBP
- And other supported currencies
The merchant could have separate balances inside the same Shopify Wallet, such as:
USD Balance
PKR Balance
INR Balance
EUR Balance
This would make Shopify much more useful for international dropshipping businesses.
- Built-in Currency Exchange
The wallet could include a built-in currency exchange feature.
For example, if a merchant receives money in INR but needs USD to pay a supplier, they could convert INR → USD directly inside Shopify.
Shopify could apply a small currency conversion fee or exchange spread, creating an additional revenue stream for Shopify while providing a convenient service to merchants.
For example:
Customer pays in INR → Money enters Shopify Wallet → Merchant converts INR to USD → Supplier cost is paid in USD → Remaining amount stays as merchant profit.
- Automatic Supplier Payment
The wallet could be connected with authorized dropshipping suppliers.
When a customer purchases a product:
Customer Payment → Shopify Wallet → Supplier Cost Automatically Deducted → Supplier Order Placed → Remaining Amount = Merchant Profit
This could potentially work with Shopify’s existing supplier integrations and authorized fulfillment partners.
- Merchant Withdrawals
Merchants should also be able to withdraw their available wallet balance to their connected bank account or supported payment method.
For example:
Customer Payment: $100
Product/Supplier Cost: $60
Merchant Gross Profit: $40
The $60 would be used for fulfillment, while the $40 would remain available to the merchant.
The merchant could either use that balance for future orders or withdraw it.
- Why I Believe This Would Be Valuable
One of the biggest challenges for dropshipping merchants is managing cash flow.
A merchant may receive a customer order but still need separate funds to pay the supplier before the product can be shipped.
A Shopify Dropshipping Wallet could solve this problem by connecting the entire payment and fulfillment process.
It could provide:
- Automatic order funding
- Automatic supplier payments
- Multi-currency balances
- Currency conversion
- Transparent profit tracking
- Easier international selling
- Faster order fulfillment
- Easier cash-flow management
- Direct withdrawals for merchants
It could also increase trust because merchants would be able to manage their customer payments, supplier costs and profits within Shopify’s own ecosystem instead of relying on multiple external services.
My Main Question
Does Shopify already have a project or feature planned that works similarly to this idea?
If not, I strongly believe this could be a valuable new product for Shopify.
I would personally be very interested in using such a feature, and I believe many dropshipping merchants around the world could benefit from it.
The concept could essentially be:
Shopify Store + Customer Payments + Multi-Currency Wallet + Currency Exchange + Automatic Supplier Payment + Profit Wallet + Merchant Withdrawals
I hope Shopify will consider this idea for a future product or feature.
Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal.
Best regards,
Umar
