I am using the Dwell template, version 3.5.1. On the product page, the Accelerated Checkout Options currently include “Buy with Shop”, but I would also like to add Google Pay and Apple Pay options. Those payment options are activated under the Wallets section in Payment Settings. Below is an image of the section of the product page I am asking about. I’ve looked thru the settings but have had no luck finding a solution.
I looked into this and I believe this is how it works: on product pages, Shopify only shows one accelerated checkout button. It picks which one to display dynamically based on the customer’s device and browser. So you’re seeing “Buy with Shop” but a customer on Safari might see Apple Pay instead, and someone on Chrome with Google Pay set up would see Google Pay.
Where you should see all the buttons together is on the cart page and at checkout in the Express Checkout section. That’s where Shopify displays every accelerated option you have enabled.
To verify everything is working:
Check your cart page on any browser, you should see all of them listed there
Try opening a product page on different browsers/devices and you should see the button change
If you’re not seeing Google Pay and Apple Pay anywhere (not even on the cart page), then double check in Settings → Payments that they’re fully activated under Shopify Payments, not just under Wallets.
Shopify decides which button to show based on what device and browser your customer is using.
So, if you are testing this on a Windows PC using Chrome, you might only see “Buy with Shop” or “Google Pay”. If you check your store on an iPhone using Safari, Apple Pay should automatically pop up right where that purple button is.
You can test that theory by trying opening your product page on an iPhone (using Safari) and an Android phone (using Chrome). If you’ve already turned them on in your Payment Settings, they should appear naturally based on the device.
If you’ve tested on those devices and they still aren’t showing up, let me know! It might be a theme layout glitch, and we can dig deeper.
I tried using my iPad with the Safari browser, and the Chrome browser on my Windows PC (I don’t have an Android device to use for testing). In both cases only the “Buy with Shop” button appeared.
I also double-checked settings, and everything is turned on under Payment Settings > Wallets. That is the only place I could find in settings that referenced those payment options.
That’s actually expected behavior. On product pages, Shopify only displays one accelerated checkout button and picks which one to show dynamically. Shop Pay tends to take priority when it’s enabled.
To confirm everything is working correctly, try this: add a product to your cart and go to your cart page or Checkout. That’s where Shopify shows all the accelerated checkout buttons you have enabled (Shop Pay, Google Pay, Apple Pay). If you see all three there, then everything is set up correctly and your customers will see the right button based on their device and payment setup.
If Google Pay and Apple Pay don’t show up on the cart page either, then there might be a configuration issue worth looking into with Shopify Support.
So, there are three areas where I am looking; the product page, the cart, and checkout. In each case the browser used does not seem to impact which buttons appear.
On the product page, only Shop Pay appears.
On the cart page, Shop Pay and PayPal appear.
In checkout, all four appear (Shop Pay, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay).
If you want to see for yourself, let me know and I will send you a link to the store.
Call it a wish list item, but it would be nice to have the buttons visible on the product page. I’m guessing that would greatly simplify the ordering process, and that should result in additional sales.
Thanks for running those tests. This actually gives us the exact puzzle piece we needed, and your store is working perfectly.
Unfortunately, Shopify’s core checkout system hard-locks this feature. I think there is no native setting, nor any custom code workaround, that can force all 4 functional accelerated buttons to appear simultaneously on the product page.
To achieve the exact result you are looking for (letting customers know immediately that you accept Google Pay and Apple Pay), the best practice is to add Payment Trust Icons directly below your “Add to Cart” or “Buy with Shop” button.
By displaying static icons of Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, etc., you give customers the visual confirmation they need to proceed.
Since you are using the Dwell theme, you can easily achieve this by:
Adding a “Custom Image” or “Trust Badge” block within your Product Information section in the theme editor.
Or, using a free, lightweight app like Avada Trust Badge or Trust Me to automatically inject those payment icons right under your cart buttons.
It’s a small visual trick, but it completely solves the friction of customers not knowing if their preferred payment method is accepted.
Letting customers know what payment options are available was not the primary purpose. What I was actually looking for was a simpler, more efficient way for customers to use Google Pay or Apple Pay, and having those options directly on the product page accomplishes just that by eliminating unnecessary steps. Why require them to go all the way to the checkout page? That sort of takes the “Express” out of Express Payments.
I have to believe a frictionless checkout process can only help lower cart abandonment rates and increase conversion rates. That is truly what I was trying to accomplish. I understand that may not be an option currently, but it is something I hope Shopify and the teams that develop templates consider in future development.
Thanks again for all of the help and feedback. Much appreciated.
Hello Pete @ps1505
In Dwell 3.5.1 those accelerated checkout buttons are not added per option in the theme but are generated automatically by Shopify. You have at this point proceeded with enabling Wallets and from here on out you just need to make sure Shopify Payments is active in full, and ‘Show dynamic checkout button’ is ticked in your product form options.
Apple Pay and Google Pay buttons will only be displayed when the customer is using a supported device/browser/currency combination, so it’s normal in some circumstances for only Shop Pay to show. Reconfirm from mobile on safari or chrome incognito.
I understand the browser/device determine which buttons appear, but from what I can see even that has no impact. Here is an example – below is a screen image of the product page taken on an iPad using the Safari browser. In this case one would expect to see Apple Pay, correct? All that appears is “Buy with Shop”. I also did the same thing on my iPhone and had the same results. So, unless I’m doing something wrong, the device and/or browser doesn’t seem to have any impact on which buttons appear.
