Add featured image section to collection that differs from what's on the backend

What I am looking to do is code in a feature that allows for me to select an image that is different from the featured image of a collection on Dawn. I am attaching two images. The first one is what I have. The second is from a differing theme and I am trying to add that feature into Dawn. All I want to do is be able to have the “Select an Image” option. Looks like an easy add but I’m struggling to figure it out. Thanks in advance!
