Add Multiple Boxes in One Fulfillment When Creating Shipping Labels

Hi Shopify Team and Fellow Merchants,

I’d like to request a feature that allows merchants to add multiple boxes in a single fulfillment when creating shipping labels directly in Shopify. This would include the ability to assign specific products to each box and streamline the shipping process for orders with multiple items.

Use Case:

Many merchants, including myself, handle orders with multiple items that require multiple boxes for shipping. For example:

  • An order with 7+ items might need to be split into Box A, Box B, and Box C, each with different dimensions and weights.
  • Currently, Shopify only allows us to split the fulfillment item by item, which creates separate shipping confirmations for each item. This is confusing for customers when all items are shipped at the same time.
  • While there is a button to “Add Package,” it only creates a box without assigning products to it, making it difficult to manage complex shipments.

**Proposed Solution:**1. Multiple Boxes in One Fulfillment:

  • Allow merchants to add multiple boxes (e.g., Box A, Box B, Box C) within a single fulfillment.
  • Each box can have its own dimensions, weight, and shipping label.

  1. Assign Products to Boxes:

    • Enable merchants to assign specific products or quantities to each box.
    • For example:
      • Box A: Product 1 (x2), Product 2 (x1)
      • Box B: Product 3 (x3), Product 4 (x1)

  2. Streamlined Shipping Confirmation:

    • Send one shipping confirmation email to the customer, listing all tracking numbers for the boxes in the fulfillment.
    • This avoids confusion caused by multiple shipping confirmations for a single order.

  3. Native Shopify Solution:

    • Build this functionality directly into Shopify’s fulfillment workflow, eliminating the need for third-party apps.

Business Impact:

This feature would:

  • Streamline Fulfillment: Simplify the process of shipping multi-item orders that require multiple boxes.
  • Improve Customer Experience: Customers receive one clear shipping confirmation with all tracking numbers, reducing confusion.

Additional Arguments:- Universal Appeal: This feature benefits all merchants, from small businesses to enterprise-level stores, especially those shipping large or complex orders.

  • Customer Satisfaction: Clear and consolidated shipping confirmations improve the customer experience and reduce support inquiries.
  • Operational Efficiency: Merchants can manage their shipping workflows more effectively, saving time and resources.

Here’s the issue we’re having. I sell a single item bundle that must go into two separate boxes but I can only generate 1 shipping label.
so we generate the first label then I generate a new invoice for the other box that needs to go out. Is there another way?

Unfortunately, Shopify doesn’t support multiple labels per items for one order natively. You’ll need a third-party app like ShipStation or ShippingEasy to split shipments and generate separate labels. Hope this helps!
