Add-on that automatically adds descriptions based on UPC?

Best way to get product descriptions? Is it standard practice to copy/paste each one from the vendor websites item by item (700 products)?

I was imagining there was some kind of universal database or maybe an add-on that can search for standard product names and match it with a description (sort of like movie and music databases) but I haven’t seen anything like that.
