Add Pre-Order option to DAWN Theme

Topic summary

A user seeks to add a pre-order button to the DAWN theme but cannot locate the “Add to Cart” section in the main product liquid file, despite following guidance from a previous thread.

Solution provided:

  • Navigate to Online Store > Themes > Actions > Edit Code
  • Locate the buy-button.liquid file within the Snippets folder
  • The user successfully found the file but needs further guidance on activation

Implementation options discussed:

  • For all products: Edit button wording via Shopify’s language settings (simpler approach)
  • For selective products: Customize the buy-buttons.liquid snippet directly (requires technical knowledge)
  • Always backup themes before making modifications

Alternative approach:
A preorder app is suggested as a faster, easier solution that avoids theme customization issues and compatibility problems during theme updates.

Status: The discussion remains open, with the user still needing specific instructions on activating the pre-order functionality after locating the correct file.

Dear all,

I have looked at previous thread outlining how to change the main product liquid file to do this on here:
https://community.shopify.com/post/2776760

However, for whatever reason I cannot find the “Add to Cart” section in my product liquid file.

Can anyone advise please?

Thank you!

Hi @DB19 ,

  • Go to Online Store > Themes.
  • Click Actions > Edit Code.
  • In the left-hand panel, look for the Snippets folder.
  • Find the file named buy-button.liquid and open it.

Thank you very much! I found it! How do I edit it in order to “activate” the Pre-Order Button?

If this will apply to ALL products just edit the wording:

:bomb: Always backup themes before modifying files.

Otherwise it’s customizing in buy-buttons.liquid snippet, or other advanced theme customizations.

@DB19 Curious - any reason why you wouldn’t want to use a preorder app to do this?

It’s a lot faster and easier to do it, and you can avoid any pain in updating your theme versions (customizations don’t carry over). We run a Preorder & Back in stock alerts app - STOQ - and it’s super easy to set things up with us. Happy to help you out end-to-end if you’d like!
