I’m a POS Pro user running retail stores where we receive inventory daily. We need a fast way to scan barcodes and add stock directly from the POS app.
The problem:
The “Quick Count” extension is exactly what we need — it works great, supports barcode scanners, and syncs inventory in real time. However, it’s only accessible through product details:
This workflow doesn’t make sense for receiving inventory. We don’t want to search for a product first just to open Quick Count. We want to open Quick Count first, then scan whatever products arrive.
The solution:
Please add “Start quick count” as a tile option in the Smart Grid editor, just like you can add tiles for Inventory Transfers or Purchase Orders.
This would allow us to:
Tap one tile on the home screen
Start scanning incoming inventory immediately
Submit when done
Current workarounds don’t work:
Stocky is deprecated
Inventory Transfers requires creating transfers in advance
Purchase Orders requires creating POs in advance
Third-party apps cost extra money for functionality that already exists natively
The Quick Count feature is already built and working. It just needs to be accessible from the home screen.
Is anyone else experiencing this limitation? Would love to hear from other retailers who need faster inventory receiving workflows.
Thanks for confirming this, Josephtech. It’s frustrating because the feature literally exists and works perfectly — it’s just buried in the wrong place in the UI.
What I’m doing now as a workaround: I open any random product, launch Quick Count from there, and then just start scanning everything that comes in. It works because Quick Count isn’t actually limited to the product you opened it from — you can scan any barcode once you’re in. But having to go through a product detail page first just to access it is an unnecessary extra step that makes no sense for a receiving workflow.
I’ve submitted this as a feature request through Shopify Support, but I’m posting here hoping to get some visibility and see if other retailers can upvote or echo the request. The more of us asking for this, the better chance it gets prioritized.
For context: we receive inventory daily across two locations. The current flow of Products → Select product → View details → Quick Count adds friction to something that should be a single tap from the home screen.
If anyone from Shopify product team reads this: the technical lift here seems minimal. Quick Count already works as a standalone scanning interface once opened — it’s not actually tied to the product you accessed it from. It just needs a Smart Grid entry point. Even a “Start Quick Count” tile that opens it directly would solve this entirely.
Would appreciate if others dealing with this limitation could comment or submit similar requests.

When this feature was released on October 23, 2025, it was originally through the use of a POS tile in the Smart Grid of the Shopify POS app. Shortly after this, the workflow was updated for the feature to be accessible by selecting a specific product first.
I’m glad that you were able to submit feedback to our team regarding this feature, as I completely understand your point in that the tool itself is perfect, but the accessibility point for it is sitting in the wrong place.

We support stock taking and counting in our app via a smart grid tile https://apps.shopify.com/stock-take-inventory-count-1 with some more advanced reporting and counting options
It integrates into Shopify POS, if you are using that for your store. So no need to learn any new systems.
It supports barcode scanning if you have other physical products, but you can also manually count too.
We’ve also integrated with Shopify Transfers and support replenishment limits with these to generate them automatically
