Add to cart button not working on some products

Topic summary

Intermittent Add to Cart failures on two products (Morning Raid, Ethiopian): after switching variants the button is sometimes greyed out or unresponsive; a page refresh can temporarily fix it. Customers have reported the same issue on vikingcoffeeco.com.

Context: Store uses the Shopify “Ride” theme (first‑party). Issue appears variant-specific and not consistent across all products.

Initial troubleshooting guidance: Check inventory status per variant and per inventory location to ensure stock is available everywhere the product is sold. A screenshot was shared to illustrate where to verify inventory/location settings. Another likely cause is a theme-side issue (e.g., JavaScript handling variant changes) disabling the button.

Updates: Merchant confirmed inventory is in stock. Since the theme is Shopify’s Ride (not third‑party), the advised next step is to contact Shopify Support for deeper investigation and guidance.

Status: Unresolved. Action items: 1) Re‑verify stock at each location for affected variants; 2) Engage Shopify Support to review theme behavior and storefront scripts affecting the Add to Cart state.

Hello, I’ve searched through a lot of similar questions about this and non have seemed to fix the problem.

I’ve noticed this on two products. Morning Raid and Ethiopian.

When the page loads sometimes when you switch the variant the add to cart button is greyed out and disabled.
Sometimes the Add To Cart button won’t function and you must refresh that page to get it to work properly.

Hi @evanarmstrong !

This seems like a theme or product issue. If you switched to other product and the add to cart button is greyed out, you might want to check your inventory location and settings and see if this item is indeed “in stock” and also check the inventory location of this variant to see if the item is in stock for all the location where it is available.

Another reason that might be causing this is, there’s a problem within your theme. If you are using a third-party theme, I highly suggest that you reach out to your theme developer so they can take a further look of your theme code settings and pinpoint what is causing the error. Otherwise, reach out to Shopify support team so they can further guide you to troubleshoot.

Inventory is in fact in stock.

Theme I’m using is Ride, one of the shopify themes

I see. You will need to reach out to Shopify support team so they can further investigate what is causing this issue and guide you for the next steps if necessary.
