Adding a custom customer address field in customers/addresses.liquid doesn't manifest

Topic summary

A user attempted to add a custom “District (Barangay)” field to Shopify’s customers/addresses.liquid template but found it doesn’t appear in the store’s address form preview.

Key responses:

  • Custom fields cannot be added directly to Shopify’s native address form through template modifications
  • Recommended solution: Use a third-party app like Customer Fields (https://apps.shopify.com/customer) to enable custom address fields
  • Alternative apps should offer specialized functionality beyond basic address collection, particularly for different countries and delivery methods
  • One responder shared a YouTube tutorial for customizing Shopify contact forms with dropdowns, radio buttons, and checkboxes

Status: The issue stems from Shopify’s platform limitations rather than implementation error. The discussion points toward app-based solutions as the viable workaround.

hello,

I’ve tried adding the following field to my addresses.liquid in hope to find it in the shop’s address collection form:

District (Barangay)

However, nothing happens when I go to store preview and I still see the normal address fields.

any idea what’s wrong?

You can’t add custom fields to the address form like that.

Try using an app like Customer Fields.

Customer address options must be available.

For different countries and methods of work and delivery.

And apps should offer something special, not the basics.
