We are updating the homepage of our Theme Impact store to include a “Shop by Benefit” section. This feature will allow customers to easily browse and select products based on their desired benefits or functions (e.g., Immunity, Energy, Stress Relief, etc.).
Do I need to install a Shopify app to implement this feature, or can it be done using the built-in theme settings or custom code?

You can look for apps for this particularly look for quiz type of apps from what I understand your requirement.
You can definitely custom code a section like this where you may be create a quiz like feature or just options that users can choose and give them a score for it and finally on the basis of the score display a collection or a few products for the users to look at.
The idea of it is pretty good, something not very new but definitely good for user interaction which might in turn attract users to browse through some products depending on what they are going through.
