Adding a text field in the cart

I have Dawn Theme 15.2.0.

When my customers order products from my site, it is often for their upcoming events. I would like to add a space in the cart so that they can enter their event date or anything else they may have to say. I also would need a way of viewing the note when the order comes in to me. can someone help? This is what I have in mind:

Dawn has a setting for this under “Theme Settings”=> “Cart”: Cart note.

Can also be seen on cart page “Subtotal” section, need to open “Theme settings”:
