Adding Required Field To Dawn Theme Product Page

I added a new text field to my product page for personalization and the field is working fine however, I am trying to make it a REQUIRED field and that is not working. I have read where you should remove the ‘novalidate’ attribute from the main-product.liquid but that does not exist on my main-product.liquid. Can anyone tell me how to do make it a required field? Here is how I added the field:
