We are looking for a app or other solution for our taste samples. In every order we fullfill, we always send a free sample of candy. It has worked fine, but we wanna evolve this function to fit better. Sometimes there are allergies or other reasons for getting a diffrent taste sample.
We would want to add the product taste sample to our site (hidden) with variants of all the diffrent tastes we have in stock. So for example we might have 250 each of 4 diffrent tastes. Whenever a customer adds a product to the cart, we’d want them to be able to pick a sample for free. The sample will then be seen on our packing list and we can pick the right taste that they wanted.
This way we can also get data on what sample they got and use that very efficently in email/sms marketing.
Anyone has any clue? we have looked at cartbot, but the app does not have the function to change variants from the customer perspective. Also checked out discounty for the buy y get x offer, but it has limitations, for example it will still show products that are out of stock.
Looking forward to anyones ideas, we are open for everything (nearly!)
@Lilboris Hey!! This is a great use case, and it makes total sense to let customers choose their sample instead of guessing. A build your own or bundle style flow where the sample is included for free and the customer selects the taste as a variant can work really well here.
Alexis this side from keficommerce.com, and this is something keficommerce.com can support. It allows customers to choose variants, respects stock levels, and the selected sample shows up clearly on the order, which also gives you clean data for email or SMS follow ups later. Might be worth having a look to see if it fits your workflow. Hope this helps.
To keep things simple you can may be add an extra box or something like an input or drop-down with the available free samples and let users choose from that.
Since it’s free there’s no worry about the pricing and with line item properties the user can see the sample they selected in cart and checkout pages and you get that in the backend along with the orders as an extra info for marketing purposes.
In short there are obviously app solutions for this, definitely there are free ones for a requirement as simple as yours but it can be custom coded as well, so without an app.
What you’re describing is actually a nice use case because you want to both let customers choose their free sample and capture that preference for future marketing.
You can try AiTrillion along with your cart setup.
With AiTrillion, you can create a cart-level offer or popup that triggers when a customer adds a product to the cart. Instead of automatically assigning a random sample, the popup can present the available sample options (for example the different candy flavors). The customer can then select the flavor they want before checkout.
That selected variant is added to the cart as the free sample product, so it appears on the packing slip and your team knows exactly which sample to include when fulfilling the order.
Because AiTrillion syncs order and customer behavior data, you can also capture which sample each customer selected. That information can then be used later for segmentation or targeted campaigns. For example, if someone selected a strawberry flavor sample, you could later send them emails or SMS campaigns related to strawberry products or similar flavors.
Over time, this becomes valuable because you’re not just giving away samples — you’re collecting preference data that can power more personalized marketing campaigns.
So in your case AiTrillion can help with:
• letting customers pick their sample in the cart
• adding the correct sample variant to the order automatically
• capturing flavor preference data
• using that data later for segmentation in email or SMS campaigns
