Adjusting Button "Hitbox" or "Clickable" area

Topic summary

A user is experiencing an issue with the Hero (Optional Slideshow) section in Shopify’s “New” theme where the entire hero image acts as a clickable link, redirecting to the products page when clicked.

Desired behavior:

  • Only the button should be clickable (green area in attached screenshot)
  • The hero image itself should not be clickable (red area should be non-interactive)

Current problem:
Clicking anywhere on the hero image triggers the same action as the button, creating an unintended large clickable area.

The user is seeking guidance on how to either:
A. Remove the link from the hero slideshow image entirely, or
B. Prevent the image from being clickable while keeping the button functional

No solutions or responses have been provided yet. The discussion remains open with the user awaiting technical assistance on modifying the theme’s clickable regions.

Hi there! We are currently using the Theme: New and are encountering a strange action with the Hero (Optional Slideshow) section. Right now as it stands, if you click the image it will function the same as the button and take you our products page. However we wish the image to no longer be a clickable area and just leave the function up to the button. If there is a way to disable the Hero Slideshow image, from either A. Having a link and/or B. Preventing it from being a button at all, we would greatly appreciate any feedback. Attached below are site specifics as well as a quick image as to what we are looking for. We would like the Green area to be clickable and the red area to not be clickable. Thank you all for your time and consideration
