I nested my collections for organization and now when you click any link it all goes to the same page. It says 7 collections linked to default collection but I can not find how to change that so when it is clicked it only shows the one collection. When I go to create a page, I am not able to create a separate page for the the collection either. Right now I have Home, Default Collection Page, and contacts. Using paid Dawn theme.
Hi can you share the website link or screenshot will be helpful Thank you
I’ve just spent HOURS being a hair away from wanting to punch my monitor due to this issue. The reason it happens is due to a misunderstanding of TEMPLATES.
What is a template? Well, I have yet to see a need for it, but in short, all the elements on your page get saved to that template. So no matter how many pages you make with different parameters, even though it looks like it should load another collection, it goes back to the old template.
So, how did I finally get this to work? The steps are: Go to your page in the CUSTOMIZER. Create a new template in the drop-down menu on top. Then, go back to the page in the ADMIN section and set the template to the new one you just made. Then, go back to the CUSTOMIZER and edit as needed. Don’t forget to hit SAVE!
When using a template, the ONLY part of the page that gets saved between the ADMIN and the CUSTOMIZER is the “Page”. EVERYTHING ELSE (collection lists, multicolumns etc…) will get reset by the template. All your customizations on one page with that old template will carry over to every other page that uses that old template. If you create a new template for every page, this carry over issue goes away.
I have no idea why the Shopify devs thought this was a great idea, but considering we can’t even have custom image backgrounds without CSS, I’m not surprised the implementation is this confusing to beginners, even those who have actual programming experience like me.
You make it sound so easy but its not. It wants me to create a metaobject definition, whatever that is. So I tried. No idea how to do it.
This does work, thank you Gbg coder, here are the steps in more lamens terms for us non computer people:
- Go to your themes > click customise on your PUBLISHED theme (if you do this on a non published theme or one that you are trialing it will not work) > once you are in the builder click on the drop down menu top dead centre above your website > click on pages in the drop down (ignore the create metaobject template) > Click create template at the bottom > name your new template the name of the new page you want > save > come out of the builder back into the admin > go to pages > click on the page you want to link > now when you click on the theme template for the page (shown under the title “online store”) you will see the new template you have created > click on the new template > go back to customise theme/builder > your page may still show the same content as all the rest but you can now delete the content on that page without it deleting the content from the other pages > now you can start with a fresh blank page. I hope this helps.
I should add, if you want to get this to work in a trial or non published theme then you need to go into the customise for the theme and create templates with the same names as the ones you have created in your published themes. then it will work on the non published/trial ones too
