*All* Shopify Shops only display as white screens for me

Topic summary

Users on Windows laptops are experiencing an issue where all Shopify stores display as blank white screens across multiple browsers (Chrome and Firefox). The problem is isolated to specific Windows machines, as the same stores load correctly on mobile devices, iPads, and other computers.

Troubleshooting attempts that failed:

  • Clearing cookies, cache, and temporary files
  • Restarting devices
  • Using incognito mode
  • Testing with/without VPN
  • Disabling Windows Defender and antivirus software

Key observations:

  • Stores briefly display on first visit but turn white after any interaction or page reload
  • Issue persists across all Shopify sites, not specific to individual stores
  • One user reported running Windows 11 Home 24H2 64-bit

Workarounds found:

  • Installing Ubuntu in a virtual machine allows normal access to Shopify stores
  • One user resolved the issue by uninstalling printer drivers and other applications from Windows

Shopify support has been contacted but the root cause remains unclear. The problem appears intermittent for some users, with temporary periods of normal functionality.

Hello,

for a few hours now, all Shopify stores, no matter what URL i visit, have only been displaying as white. This has nothing to do with a theme or a plugin or a browser extension of a store I’m working on. This happened while I wasn’t editing any store and it happens on any demo store or any other website where I know the creator is using a Shopify shop. They all display as completely white.

I can see things fine on my mobile phone (chrome on android) and on my ipad (chrome on iOS), but neither Chrome nor Firefox show me any Shopify stores on Windows 11 on my laptop.

I’ve already

  • deleted all cookies, emptied cache, got rid of any temporary internet files etc. (several times)

  • restarted my laptop

  • tried using incognito apps

  • tried using VPN or not VPN

  • tried more than one browser

no luck … all Shopify stores are just completely white for me. If i haven’t visited a store before, i get to see the store content (start page) and as long as i don’t click anywhere (or reload the page). As soon as i reload the page or click on any sub page, the page is displayed as completely white. And from that moment onwards, it stays white.

Any idea what is going on? Or what i could try?

Thank you!

help? any idea? I haven’t found a solution yet

Same problem here, only on one Windows laptop since last week. Been trying on other Windows machines no problem, working well on Macs, Ipads, Mobile phones.

it drives me crazy! i can’t think of anything else i could try >_<

i forgot to list vpn and no vpn … no change there either.

i’m on windows 11 home 24H2 64 bit - in case that will lead to something shrug

oh, i just had another idea! since it happens on any browser on this windows laptop and with deleted cookies and emptied cache:

what if it is windows defender??! that’s blocking all shopify code from being run for whatever reason?!

(currently travelling so i can’t test it right away, but maybe it’s helpful for you)

I contacted Shopify support and tried all suggestions including deactivating Windows security and anti-virus with no success. Shopify suppport are supposed to look into this issue.

@CelilasArt Still tying to solve this you can follow this thread: https://community.shopify.com/post/2938268

The white window is actually the problem with your software. You can work on it by installing some imp drivers from tint pro to get proper installation.

I’ve found a workaround. I’ve installed a virtual machine on my windows laptop and installed ubuntu in that VM, and I can work on shopify pages without any problem there.

meanwhile, on the windows part of the laptop, the shopify pages are currently working again. but since they’ve been working now and again for the last few weeks before all going white again for days and weeks on end, i don’t trust that the problem has disappeared on its own lol

that answer is not helpful at all, sorry. what software?

I ended up unstalling some printer drivers and other applications from the problematic Windows laptop and that resolved the problem with all shopify websites displayed as white screens! The magic of Microsoft Windows technology!!
