Allow for more saved addresses in the checkout

Topic summary

Shopify’s checkout currently displays only the 5 most recently used saved addresses, even when customers have many more stored in the backend. This limitation causes significant issues for businesses with customers who regularly ship to multiple locations (10-25+ addresses).

Core Problem:

  • Customers cannot see all their saved addresses in the checkout dropdown
  • This forces manual re-entry of existing addresses, creating duplicates
  • Particularly affects B2B customers, gift buyers, and organizations with multiple delivery locations

Shopify’s Position:

  • The 5-address limit was implemented in 2019 to improve checkout load times and user experience
  • No current workaround or timeline for changes
  • Staff member Imogen has escalated feedback to the Product/Development team multiple times

Community Suggestions:

  • Increase the cap to 10-25 addresses
  • Add a “show more” toggle button
  • Implement a search/filter function to dynamically find addresses

Status: Unresolved and ongoing. Multiple merchants have reported this issue over nearly a year with no solution announced. The checkout.liquid customization workaround is being phased out with new checkout UI extensions, leaving no alternative approach.

Hey there, @lyasick . Thanks so much for taking the time to write into the Shopify Community regarding your address question!

First, the person you spoke to previously was correct. At this time, there isn’t a way to increase the amount of addresses shown in the checkout. A few years ago, we did show more addresses, but this was a change that was made back in 2019 to help with loading the checkout/presenting a cleaner checkout experience.

However, we do know that sometimes, these changes are good, but they could be better and improved. I’m happy to pass your feedback and suggestions you provided here to our Product Team for their consideration. I can’t promise what the result of sharing this feedback may be, but you can trust the the team is aware of your post here, and the ideas that you’ve shared. I know this isn’t a solution, but I’m hopeful that this helps you remain optimistic that improvements may be coming down the pipeline for these saved addresses for customers.
