Is it possible to give the customer an option to include VAT or exclude VAT when purchasing items?

I understand you are looking for a way to offer your customers an option to include vat in their order or not. While I don’t think an option at checkout would be ideal, what would be the industry standard would be using alternative store fronts or different sections of your store.

You can use Shopify to sell your products wholesale to other businesses. You can sell on the Handshake marketplace, or create a separate, password-protected storefront. Choose an option that fits the size and complexity of your wholesale business.

You could collect the “tax exempt” status during customer registration, and this status should be stored and used by Shopify for future sales.

Some “custom registration form” apps will help you adding this as a checkbox in the registration form, here’s one of them.
