Alt text was made to help those with disabilities but some use it for SEO and keywords. Should I be writing for both and how do I do that with limited character/word count? I have a very limited amount of space that I can’t fully describe the photo. One to two sentences at most. I’m selling fine art prints and to describe what the print shows takes longer than that.
Topic summary
The original poster is struggling with how to write alt text for fine art prints given limited space (one to two sentences). They’re torn between:
- Accessibility: Describing images for users with visual impairments
- SEO: Including keywords for search optimization
A respondent advises prioritizing accessibility over SEO, noting that:
- Keyword stuffing in alt text negatively impacts SEO
- It violates ADA compliance standards
- AI-powered tools like Caseo.ai or ALTText.ai can help generate contextual alt text efficiently for large image catalogs
The discussion remains open regarding specific strategies for balancing descriptive accuracy with character constraints for fine art imagery.
Hi Brnotter, I would recommend writing for the person with vision impairments. Keyword stuffing your ALT Text actually has a negative effect on SEO and isn’t ADA Compliant. Check out apps like Caseo.ai or ALTText.ai which use context+product info to help craft content if you have a lot of images to create.
