Alternate Checkout Layout Using URL Query

I need to be able to show an alternate layout for our checkout on demand, using the standard URL “view” query (ex: ?view=alternate). I do this all the time with pages within the website, and Shopify allows you to create alternate checkout templates in the code editor, but I can’t get the alternate checkout.liquid layout to show in the browser. How do you utilize alternate layout at checkout?

You can’t apply an alternative layout or template to checkout. It doesn’t work.

Yeah… I guess I’m wondering why Shopify allows you to make alternate checkout templates, but won’t let you use them. I know this IS Shopify and all, but it doesn’t make sense. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
