We currently use Amazon as our main selling channel.
We are thinking of adding Google Shopping and Shopify as a secondary channel – do you think those channels have the potential to compete Amazon in terms of volume ? What other advice would you give to transition from an Amazon model to a Shopify/Google Shopping model ?
Hello Qivik, thank you for your question in the FeedArmy AMA Event.
In terms of volume, no, I don’t think you will, I would expect you to have less sales compared to Amazon. Currently, the market is still where consumers search for products on Amazon, which is higher than that on Google.
However, it is supplementary to your Amazon business. And can be cost effective if you setup specific campaigns if for example you want to target branded terms only.
I would not transition, I would do both. Focus on your personal website growth for higher profits and control, which I guess can’t be done in Amazon.
So start by setting up performance max with no ad assets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6VhX7MqIgY
I am in same boat as you. Good thing is Emmanuel responded with 100% correct answer. Many sellers like you and me want more sales off Amazon, but cost of getting these is way higher. I have spent £1000s in last few years on Google Ads and returns are nowhere near Amazon. Finally after last 2-3 years in end for us I have found out that main reason is our Average order value. We are around £30-40 mark. Now every business is different , so might be able to generate sales at lower cost. We are spending £15-20 per sale via Google and its not profitable. We need products priced between £100 onwards . I know its difficult. But this is reality. A small business selling less expensive goods online via Shopify website is very very hard. Wish you all the best
