A Shopify store owner encountered an “unknown error occurred, please try again later” message appearing on all product and collection pages across multiple themes (including Dawn, Debut, Brooklyn, and their custom Local theme).
Key developments:
The error persisted across different themes, suggesting it wasn’t theme-specific
The issue appeared intermittently throughout the day before seemingly resolving on its own
A wholesale app from Sparklayer was identified as a potential cause
Sparklayer reinstalled the app on a new theme, after which everything appeared to function normally
Resolution status: The issue appears resolved, though the store owner cannot confirm with 100% certainty whether the wholesale app was the root cause. Shopify’s official status page showed no widespread system issues during this time.

hi guys, i’ve had my shopify site for a few years but today i found an error popping up in the top right hand corner of all product and collection pages ‘An unknown error occurred, please try again later’. The error message doesn’t show on standard pages. I’ve even tried changing the theme to multiple other shopify themes such as Dawn, Debut and Brooklyn etc to see if the same error occurs on every theme and it does! I assume from this that it’s not a problem with my ‘Local’ theme.. if anyone experiencing this or if anyone has any idea how to resolve i’d greatly appreciate any help
Thank you for posting your question to the Shopify Community.
As per our Shopify Status Page, we haven’t received any reports of this issue and all systems seem to be operational. When navigating to your website and clicking into Product and Collection pages, I’m unable to replicate the issue mentioned above.
Based on your most recent message, it sounds like the issue may have been resolved. If the issue does arise again, please share what browser/device you’re using, and we can troubleshoot from there.
Hi, thank you for your email. Yes it was a strange issue.. it was appearing
in every theme when I switched them. Sparklayer had however installed a
wholesale app which I asked them to check if it may be causing the issue.
They then re-installed on a new theme and everything seemed to be fine.. so
it may have been the app but i can’t be 100% sure. All is well now
