Major backlash to the new Shopify admin dashboard; merchants say it’s less usable and increases daily workload.
Key pain points:
Can’t see today’s and month-to-date metrics together; forced “today vs yesterday” comparisons instead of at-a-glance key stats.
Sales and traffic rounded over 1K, hiding exact numbers; arrows/comparison “gamification” feels stressful and unhelpful.
Hidden search bars and added clicks slow workflows; overall design seen as less clear and professional.
Product image uploading now limited to 20 at a time, slow, and reorders images unexpectedly.
Collection rules using “contains” cause misclassification (e.g., “ChippENDale” into “End Tables,” “BARstools” into “Bar”).
Requests and proposals:
Immediate revert to the previous dashboard or an opt-in/opt-out toggle; add configurable analytics (e.g., default time ranges) and restore visible search.
Faster timeline (ideally before the busy season) rather than a distant “customizable option.”
Shopify response and developments:
Official reply only acknowledges feedback and promises to share with developers; no concrete details or timeline.
One user reports support escalation and an offer to revert their Home page pending a customizable version; unclear if this applies broadly.
Status: No confirmed resolution; discussion ongoing. Users cite other threads and a YouTube video as evidence of widespread dissatisfaction and threaten to switch platforms.
Has anyone heard anything actionable (and believable) from @Shopify_77 that they are actually going to change the dashboard back to what we actually want and NEED to see? They claimed in a support ticked that they were ‘working on adding a customizable option’, but to me that means we will see it in 2026. I’m afraid they are going to think we are all just going to get over it and deal and suffer silently.
This new dashboard is not something we are going to just ‘get used to’ as it is completely unusable. How on earth would they think small businesses wouldn’t need to see all of these stats in ONE SPOT? And that I can’t see my daily and monthly stats at the same time.
I definitely understand where you’re coming from regarding the most recent update to the admin and would be happy to share some insight on how we can help.
While we wouldn’t have any details on those updates, I’d be more than happy to share this feedback with our developers. We’re always looking for ways to improve the platform and can completely understand how those changes may not have been ideal.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
@Blair not ideal? you guys made all of our lives HARDER by about 10 x as much work every day. It was 100% not an improvement, and yet a step back to about 10 years ago. Just look at the comments on the YouTube videos or the other discussion threads in this forum. This change is unanimously HATED by all of your users… including the ones I’ve talked to off line.
Unfortunately that same ‘non-answer’ is what we all received when we told you how useless the ‘hexagon map’ was back when that was released and were told you were ‘looking for ways to improve’ and nothing has been fixed on that.
All we ever get is ‘we will share this with the developers’ and then nothing EVER gets better. Your developers are the problem if they ever thought this was an ‘upgrade’ to our Shopify experience… they have obviously never used Shopify as a merchant, otherwise they would not have done this to us.
I have been getting patronizing responses as well, until today. It appears that the Support Chat was elevated to another (higher?) person who actually asked what the exact issues were and why it was so disliked.
The conversation is still ongoing, but there was a comment about changing our admin back to the old version while they wait for the customizable version.
Best indication of someone finally (and actually) listening to the problems with this change.
Blair, the changes are terrible. Who decided to make sales and traffic a round number over 1K? I now have to run a report to find out exactly what I’ve sold for the day and how many sessions I’ve had. It should be explicit on the admin homepage, but instead takes several extra steps. Also, the arrows all over the place appear to employ gamification techniques to make us competitive with ourselves so we’ll make more money for the platform. I don’t need arrows constantly changing by the hour comparing my sales and sessions in an effort to spur me to work harder.
I had someone ask me that on the first day when I said it in a support message, and they ended with the same patronizing ‘we will pass it along’ and ‘working on an option’. It wasn’t a very hopeful feeling I left with unfortunately Sadly they gave the same answers when the terrible map came about and there haven’t been any changes to that in about a year.
definitely! I don’t know what good it is for me to see how I’m doing ‘today’ versus ‘yesterday’… I just want to see what I’m doing today AND this month together. It’s not like I’m making a hundred sales a day. (I wish!)
Blair, please direct all of this feedback to the developers. Truly, I’m hoping they are seeing all of the negative feedback about this update and how it is anything but helpful to us. I personally have never seen so many people share the same opinion on something, I’d assume it’d be alarming to Shopify developers at this point. Please listen to your users and either change it back or give everyone the option to switch to the old version. As so many people are saying, don’t “fix” something that isn’t broken.
Really hoping there can be a positive resolution for us with the amount of people complaining about this.
Not only is the new admin less useful, it really feels like it was developed by a user interface purist, without any concerted effort to make sure it didn’t inadvertantly dispense with useful functionality. Did Shopify really gather significant end-user input for this? It’s really hard to believe real-world users would like this new admin (not the look, feel, etc. But the actual functionality).
Rose I am with you on the arrows, it makes me panic, I don’t need to see it like that! We work as hard as we can in difficult times, constant comparisons are awful to see!
I’d like to join in to express my dislike of this new layout too, it makes life much more complicated and stressful. I’m thinking of switching to another platform, I don’t think Shopify care one bit about their users or they would listen. I’ve personally never seen so many comments about a change as this one.
I at least got a new customer service person asking questions about my issues when I mentioned i would be considering a switch of platforms. Before that was repeated patronization. And the explanations and the video about the roll-out made me ill. It feels like a design team did this to look good instead of work well. (And it doesn’t look good or professional. Ugh)
I agree. It is actually really unappealing looking. Like we went back 20 years ago… and I’m not really sure why I want things to ‘blend in’ and be hidden. I would like the important buttons to be in my face. I’d take ‘neon Shopify green’ any day over boring beige (gray).
It would be development effort better spent if, instead of a ton of changes, you were to introduce less changes, but that also included a certain level of tailoring. You can’t nail every user’s needs perfectly (our businesses vary too widely), but you can satisfy many more of them if you make things configurable (e.g., what’s the default time period for comparison on reports, etc.).
LOL, you think? Maybe you folks should have reached out to shop owners. This update is TERRIBLE and only makes my workflow less efficient. For what? So the developers can brag to other developers about how “streamlined” their site is?
The new admin page has improved nothing. Not a single thing is improved and numerous things are made harder.
If you folks actually wanted to help, you’d throw this design in the trash and go back to the previous version. Seriously, who are the developers designing for? Certainly not for us.
Yup, the comparison is mildly interesting but hardly information that we need front and center. If I want to compare today to yesterday, I can go to analytics. Now I have to go to analytics to get this months sales. Are they kidding me? What I need are today’s sales and this month’s sales at a glance. Don’t make me jump through hoops for it. And while they’re at it, quit hiding the search bars. I shouldn’t have to open them and then type into them. They should just be there, open and ready to go.
OMG the search bars. YES! SO STUPID! Yet another thing we asked them to fix over six months ago and they haven’t done anything. Why do they think we want to have to hit 30 extra buttons to do anything?
