You mentioned that you wanted to add variants to collection pages - would each variant appear on the collection page like separate products? I can definitely see how showing variants such as different colors and sizes directly on a collection page would be useful in certain scenarios. I am unable to see the pictures that you attached, so perhaps you could re-send them to give everyone an idea of exactly what you would like to achieve?
I had a look on the Shopify app store and found this app called Variants on Collection Page which looks like it will allow you to do this, without the need for hiring a developer. However, keep in mind that apps generally involve a monthly charge, so it might work out cheaper in the long run to have someone implement a custom solution on your store.
