I am currently researching Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirements for some Shopify stores and was wondering if anyone has found a good app or solution for this.
I have found some information about the regulations, but not many Shopify-specific solutions. If you have found or implemented anything, I would be interested to know:
Which app or solution did you choose?
Does it support QR codes and Digital Product Passports?
How do you handle bulk DPP generation? We are currently struggling with that.
Just trying to understand what is currently available in the Shopify ecosystem.
Digital Product Passports are still a relatively new area in the Shopify ecosystem, so there isn’t yet a single “standard” app that covers every use case. The right solution often depends on your industry (fashion, electronics, batteries, etc.) and what data you need to include.
A few things I’d look for when evaluating a DPP solution are:
QR code generation that can be printed on labels or packaging and links to a hosted product passport.
Metafield support, so passport data can be stored directly against products and variants.
Bulk import/export using CSV or Shopify’s API, since creating passports one by one doesn’t scale.
API integrations with your ERP, PIM, or manufacturing systems if product information changes frequently.
For bulk generation, I’d recommend structuring your DPP data in Shopify metafields first. Once your data is centralized, it’s much easier to automate QR code creation and passport generation using Shopify Flow, APIs, or a custom app if needed.
If you’re planning for the upcoming EU Digital Product Passport requirements, I’d also make sure the solution is flexible enough to adapt as the regulations continue to evolve, since the required data fields may change over time.
Out of curiosity, what type of products are you selling (e.g., apparel, footwear, electronics, furniture, etc.)? The best approach can vary quite a bit depending on the product category.

As it’s new things for merchants in EU. but We are working on DPP for a while and bulk creation was one of the problems where we came across. Creating digital product passport one by one may work for small number of products. but it will get difficult when you have thousands of products.
Just to be transparent, I’m part of team behind PassoNext. we created bulk DPP creation into the app for this reason, it also generates QR codes for eahc product passports.
As you mentioned you are already struggling with Bulk generartion, i also wanted to check how your product data is currently stored. if most of it is already available in Shopify then bulk creation is much easier. getting everything organized is usually first challenge.

I’ve also been researching Digital Product Passports and how the upcoming requirements could affect Shopify merchants. I’m currently developing a solution, but I’m still speaking with merchants and studying real-world workflows before deciding exactly how it should work.
One issue I’m exploring is how merchants will collect and verify information from manufacturers and suppliers—not just how they publish the final passport. Keeping that information accurate when materials, suppliers or regulatory requirements change also seems important.
I’d be interested to know which product category you’re working with and which part is causing the most difficulty: gathering supplier data, organizing it, maintaining it, or publishing it for customers.
Any practical insight would be genuinely useful while I continue the research and development.
Yeah you are not missing an obvious standard app, the ecosystem is genuinely thin right now. I built one of these (Passtiq, focused on textiles and ESPR) so I have been stuck in this exact problem for a few months.
Quick answers to what you asked. QR plus hosted passport pages is the easy part, most DPP apps including mine handle that fine. The useful bit is auto pulling what Shopify already knows (title, images, SKU, barcode, country of origin) so you are not retyping data that already exists.
Bulk generation is the honest sticking point for the whole category, not any single app. Making QR codes at scale is trivial. The hard part is that the actual compliance data (fiber composition, substances, carbon) lives in your supplier specs, not in Shopify, so nothing can truthfully one shot a correct passport for 2000 products unless you feed that data in somewhere. What actually moves the needle is a CSV import so you fill a sheet once and map it, plus auto sync for the Shopify fields. If an app promises fully automatic bulk, it is likely auto filling compliance fields with guesses, which is a real problem if a regulator ever checks.
What industry are the stores in? Textiles, electronics and batteries need pretty different data fields, so that changes which app actually fits.

thanks for your suggestions and explanation. I tried PassoNext, and so far i think it’s good app for creating Digital Product Passports, especially when you have thousands of products. It also has bulk generation and QR code options with readymade template according to products category, which makes it a good fit for our requirements.
I will continue testing it, but so far it seems to fit our requirement. if i have any question i will try to comment here
