Anyone using Shopify AI Blocks? Impact on SEO & site speed?

Hey everyone,

I’ve recently been experimenting with the new AI features inside the Shopify theme editor — especially the AI Blocks (where you can generate sections like headers, content blocks, or collection descriptions with AI).

I’m really curious about your experiences with this.

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

  • Do AI-generated blocks affect website speed or performance in any noticeable way?

  • How does Google treat these AI-generated sections in terms of SEO?

  • Can it negatively impact rankings or domain authority (DR) if overused?

  • Or is it perfectly fine as long as the content is useful and well-structured?

I’m also wondering how you’re actually using AI Blocks in practice:

  • For product pages?

  • Collection descriptions?

  • Landing pages or blog-style content?

And do you manually edit the AI output, or use it mostly as-is?

I feel like it’s a powerful tool, but I’m still unsure whether it’s a long-term advantage or something that could hurt SEO if not used carefully.

Yes.

I’d say it’s pretty on par with Sections store or similar apps in terms of performance and SEO impact.

If Javascript code is needed, then AI generates some; and it adds its own CSS, so it’s not as lean as theme sections, but pretty reasonable to be used by non-dev store owner.

Complex solutions may not be done in the best possible way – say, I saw a generated section which ultimately added dozens of videos playing in parallel, so these should probably be looked over by some dev.

I’ve personally used it to generate blocks which I’ve fine-tuned later and it was working fine.

However, I believe AI assistant does not look at your page as a whole, so can be not cautious as to what elements to use (like use H1 in a wrong place, etc).

Proper prompts help avoiding some problems.

On the other hand all this can also be very true for interactions with human developers :slight_smile:
