Hi,
Are there any recommendations about good Shopify Apps for P&L analyses?
For true P&L analysis beyond basic Shopify reports, you need apps that integrate COGS, fees, and ad spend automatically. BeProfit and TrueProfit are solid Shopify App Store options that calculate real-time profitability by product and order.
For deeper integration, Triple Whale connects marketing spend with profit data, while Webgility syncs with QuickBooks for comprehensive financial reporting, including real-time profit visibility and syncing inventory across multiple sales channels. Cin7 works well if you need inventory management alongside P&L tracking.
The focus should be to choose apps that gather data from Shopify, payment systems, and ad platforms instead of just relying on revenue-only metrics.
Hey @TijmenvdValk
Great question!
For P&L (Profit & Loss) analysis, Shopify offers some built-in financial reports if you’re on the right plan, but they can be a bit limited if you need more detailed breakdowns.
A lot of store owners find [Mipler reports]super helpful - it’s an app that lets you create custom P&L statements and get deeper insights into your revenues, costs, and expenses right from your Shopify data. Highly recommend giving it a try!
Let me know if you have any questions about getting started!
@TijmenvdValk There are a few solid options in the Shopify ecosystem for P&L.
Lifetimely is deep on LTV and cohort analytics plus has P&L reporting. BeProfit has good custom reporting and is a Shopify Staff Pick. TrueProfit is strong on mobile and multi store views.
If you mainly just want to see your daily P&L with real COGS and ad spend baked in use ProfitLossDash
The thing I’d pay attention to when evaluating any of these: how they handle COGS changes. If you switch suppliers and update a cost, does the tool rewrite your historical P&L or does it keep the old cost for old orders? That’s the difference between accurate and misleading data. Also check if the app pulls your total ad spend or only attributed spend. Some tools hide unattributed ad costs which inflates your reported profit.
Hey @TijmenvdValk
If you just need a clean P&L view that pulls in your COGS, ad spend from Meta/TikTok/Google/Snapchat, shipping, and payment fees automatically, check out ClearProfit. Shows net profit in real time, breaks it down by product and variant. It’s free with unlimited orders so you’re not adding another subscription cost to the stack. Setup takes about 5 minutes.
For heavier accounting needs (tax filings, multi-channel reconciliation, QuickBooks sync), you’d want something like Webgility or Cin7 instead. But for just seeing what’s actually going to your pocket each day, ClearProfit covers it.
Best,
Moeed
A good way to narrow this down is to separate daily profit visibility from accounting-style P&L. For a Shopify P&L app, I’d look for one that pulls COGS per variant, payment fees, shipping costs, refunds, and ad spend automatically, and also preserves historical COGS when supplier costs change, otherwise old orders can show the wrong margin later.
ClearProfit’s solid for daily profit tracking. If you’re also looking to keep QuickBooks in sync with actual order data (not just a clean dashboard), MyWorks handles the sync side! orders, COGS, inventory, fees all flow automatically. We can also pull in your daily summaries so your P&L in QuickBooks shows real margin, not just revenue. Different tools for different jobs, but both worth looking at depending on whether you need reporting or full accounting automation.
most P&L apps focus on accounting-level reporting which is useful but lags behind what you actually need for daily operational decisions.
Depends what you’re trying to solve. If it’s end-of-month P&L for accounting, something like BeProfit works. If it’s knowing which specific products are profitable to scale before you touch your ad budget — that’s a different problem that most apps don’t solve cleanly because they don’t factor in return liability, pick/pack variance per SKU, and inventory velocity together.
Hi @TijmenvdValk ,
Accurately tracking P&L gets complicated quickly once you factor in ad spend, shifting shipping rates, and dynamic COGS. The common trap is stacking heavy apps that clutter your back-office and silo your financial data.
To avoid this software bloat, two pragmatic approaches work best. You can use a lightweight data orchestrator like Report Pundit to cleanly automate raw data extraction into scheduled sheets. Alternatively, for complete scalability and reduce depencencies, we can pipe your transactional data directly into your existing BI tool (like Looker Studio) via standard APIs, keeping your Shopify footprint completely clean.
Are your cost metrics (COGS and marketing spend) already centralized via API, or are they currently managed across external spreadsheets?
Best,
Julien

Jumping in on this older post to ask if anyone has tried any new P&L apps for Shopify lately. Tools like ClearProfit and Lifetimely seem to have strong features, but I’m curious if there are any other options out there now. Also, how have you found them handling changes in COGS? Would love to hear your current insights or any newer favorites!
I realize this thread is from a while ago, but I wanted to ask if anyone has tried newer solutions like ClearProfit for real-time P&L visibility. How do they stack up against stalwarts like BeProfit or TrueProfit? Also curious if anyone’s found unique ways to handle historic COGS changes effectively. Let’s get this thread rolling again – any fresh insights would be much appreciated!
