Hello Community! We have a gift company and I am looking for an app that allows customers to choose the design for a printed postcard from templates (and ideally allows them to upload their own image instead) and which lets them add their personal message which is printed on the back of the card. The postcard would then be printed by us and included with their giftbox if they select this option. Does anyone know if anything like this exists? Thanks so much!
Unfortunately, unless the app directs image/file uploads to a third party host like Flickr or Dropbox, the image is usually going to be submitted to shopify as a property and it will severely lose quality through Shopify’s compression, which will give you like a 300kb webp. And I don’t know of any normal app in the App Store that will host your customer’s image.
A better approach is to create a custom upload snippet and render the snippet in the product form. The snippet can then become as complex or simple as you like. With your own snippet/sections, you have the control. With an app, you have very limited control.
Do you have an example of this that you can share for a visual representation of your requirement. This will help understand it better. A store owner recently told me he was using an app called PAL for this which lets users add a gift product and message along with it but it might not fulfill all of your needs.

Hi @Shadab_dev I don’t, because I haven’t been able to find anything like it. In an ideal world what I am look for is customer adds their giftbox to the cart, it then asks them Would you like to add a printed gift card with your order? If they tick the box, then it asks them to select the template from a selection of designs or they can upload their own image, and then it asks them to add the note for their giftcard. Many apps offer this for digital giftcards but I am looking for one that can easily be printed.
this is the closest to what I am looking for Bloom & Wild Flower Delivery | Flowers & Gifts but they don’t have the upload your own image instead option….and then I need it to be very easy to automate printing of the cards with the orders

To be honest, the upload your own image is a ‘nice to have’, the priority is just having an app that allows for a seamless customer experience in which they can easily select the design for their printed gift card and add their message and it is very easy then for us to print all the gift cards with the order notes…if we could even solve for that first that would be a good first step!
If you just need the image be it user uploading one or selecting from a list of templates and a message, this can be taken care of with line item properties in Shopify. So users add these details in the product page before they add to cart and you get this info as extra details along with the order details in the backend. You can then fulfill your order accordingly.

is there an easy way to then automate the printing of these? for example, can you create a template in Order Printer, and then it pulls this info into Order Printer and prints all gift notes in one go?
Yeah there are a few apps that do product personalization with image uploads and text fields. The tricky part is you need something that captures the design choices and message at checkout so you can print it yourself later, not something that auto-fulfills to a print vendor. Have you looked at apps in the product options category that let customers upload files and add custom text?
No, i dont think so there is, atleast not in my knowledge scape. You get the design template image(as url that will be posted in platform like cloudinary, etc) and message as extra info and you will need to download the image and print for that individual order by the customer.

Most gift-card apps on Shopify focus on digital cards, but there are a few that let you get closer to what you want by combining physical printing and customization. Some apps let you sell gift cards with custom messages and design options and support bulk or multi-currency cards, and others add file upload blocks so customers can upload images at purchase which you can use when printing. You can also use a product options app that lets customers upload a photo alongside the gift card product, then print those orders manually. It won’t be perfect out of the box for printed cards with photo upload, but stitching a gifting tool with file upload on the product page usually covers most use cases.
If you wanted to do it yourself, Sidekick is the tool to do it with.
You could add a “custom liquid” block to your product information section on your product page. Then ask Sidekick to create a button that opens a modal section. Then add a section in the code editor, and ask sidekick to create the modal code that has however many images, 12 (3 rows of 4 or whatever), and have the customer select the image, and after selecting the image, the modal closes and displays an image thumbnail underneath the button, and have sidekick make the selection go through to the cart.
You can do the same with a text input form. Just create a “custom liquid” block, ask sidekick to make a text input form that’s 3 lines tall and give it some title like “Special instructions or notes”. Here’s an example of something that Sidekick just created in 10 minutes in the Craft theme:
