App recommendation for Google Consent Mode V2 please

Hello Community,

Since Shopify’s native solution for consent mode v2 compliant cookie banner is not ready yet, I’ve been looking for plugins / apps to do the job temporarily.

After hearing horror stories about some non-Shopify cookie solutions, I decided to Proceed with the Pandectes app for an immediate fix since it had very positive reviews.

To be honest, I haven’t received good results at all. I’m on the right plan, set up integration from settings as required, tags and analytics were already done… but honestly, I do not see the required functionality working after the setup. I checked with Tag Assistant and nothing is fired, unlike before.

Moreover, I tried other website tools to check consent mode v2 is enabled or not like https://cmv2.anyaway.com/results and it shows consent mode v2 Not enabled here either.

The saddest part is, no response from support team in the past 24 hours despite the claim of 24/7 support.

Could anyone kindly correct me if I’m doing anything wrong here or please, could someone propose an alternative? How did you setup Google Consent Mode V2 for your site?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

One of my clients is using: https://apps.shopify.com/eu-cookies-notification?show_store_picker=1

And I have personally verified in GA4 that the correct signals are sent.

Thank you Emmanual, will be sure to check it out. I’ve watched lots of your videos on GMC, SEO etc. and found them very helpful. Any chance you’d be posting anything about consent mode v2 integration for Shopify sites please?

At the moment, I see no need to make a video about consent mode v2, as there are plenty of apps that have this functionality. However, if you can explain how a video can help, please let me know. At the moment, I don’t really see a reason.

It would definitely help those who are struggling to implement it. Especially within Shopify. I know many apps are available, but not everyone has the resources to try out each and choose one. I also couldn’t find a tutorial with no 3rd party solutions involved, so that’s a topic I’d personally love to see get covered.

Most apps, if not all that show they are consent mode v2 compliant, are compliant. Alternative I recommend you verify if the company is listed here: https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/13554116?sjid=8539803716470935640-AP#google-cmps&zippy=%2Cgoogle-certified-cmps

Currently as Cookie consent is very technical and has legal requirements, I will not make any videos. This is not my area of expertise. As such, I don’t create videos about subjects I know little to nothing about.

However, thank you for your interest.

Hey @SK_TG

Navigating Google Consent Mode V2 can be tricky, but our support team is available to provide personalized assistance, and our FAQ section and blog offer detailed guides. If you need a compliance solution with solid support, our app is here for you :slightly_smiling_face:

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Hello @SK_TG ,

As the co-founder of Pandectes, I’m proud to announce that our GDPR Compliance app fully supports Google Consent Mode v2 since January 2024, seamlessly integrating with both Basic & Advanced modes for GA4 property, all without extra coding.

Regarding the tool mentioned by @SK_TG , https://cmv2.anyaway.com/results, our findings suggest it may not provide an accurate status of GCM v2 implementation, as their main domain indicates GCM success without actual events in the dataLayer about GCM v2. For a trustworthy assessment of your GCM v2 setup, we highly recommend using the official Google Tag Assistant (https://tagassistant.google.com/).

I also want to address the list shared by @EmmanuelFlossie , which highlights CMPs supporting IAB TCF 2.0, a standard mainly required for publishers. It’s important to note that Shopify stores typically do not operate as publishers, meaning you’re not limited to the options on this list. Our solution, Pandectes, offers a compliant, flexible alternative for Shopify store owners.

Analytics discrepancies with GCM v2 are common, but our team is dedicated to guiding you through these challenges. Despite potential discrepancies between Google Analytics and Shopify Analytics, our support team is committed to ensuring your compliance and providing seamless integration.

For more information or assistance, please visit our Pandectes GDPR Compliance app on Shopify and our website at Pandectes. We offer a 100% Free Cookie Scanner and 24/7 live chat support.

In the interest of saving people the time I’m wasting: Pandectes does not offer GCM v2 on their free plan.

I completely understand @EmmanuelFlossie 's position in not wanting to create a video on this topic, but I also agree with @SK_TG that it would be helpful to have an unbiased comparison and review of the cookie compliance options available. We were using Shopify’s Privacy & Compliance app until they killed it on March 1. (Was there a warning that I missed saying that was going to happen?)

Between the wildly varied and constantly changing privacy laws and the need to jump through Google’s hoops to use their Internet, I just can’t keep up. It is becoming nigh impossible for smaller e-tailers to stay alive. I would welcome input from someone knowledgeable and ethical—and I’m this is why you were asked, @EmmanuelFlossie , as you’re a well-respected member of the community.

Hi @Pandectes ,

Agreed. I post only because many small businesses rely on Analytics (and other Google features) to run their e-commerce sites and are seeking the most cost-effective solution right now. People like you who find solutions for Shopify’s shortcomings absolutely deserve to be paid for your efforts. But some folks are operating on a shoestring budget and need a solution to make their site compliant without extra expense, and Pandectes isn’t that solution.

This isn’t about bells and whistles. It’s not something we want to make our site prettier, increase revenue, or simplify a time-consuming process. Cookie compliance is a requirement for e-commerce and Google Analytics might as well be, so the lack of a native solution (or free app) is frustrating.

Pandectes has great reviews and the fact that you offer a free option at all is generous, albeit the smartest way to convert a user to a paid plan. If money weren’t an issue, I’d consider it.

Hi @Dascalargo ,

Thank you for your insightful feedback. We understand the tight budgets small businesses often work with and the essential role of cost-effective compliance solutions. GDPR compliance extends beyond basic Google and Shopify cookie requirements, encompassing the ability to block services, detect new tracking mechanisms, automate cookie policies, and manage data subject requests efficiently. Our app aims to simplify these complex requirements through a comprehensive backend system, offering a robust solution beyond the scope of free or native options.

We appreciate your recognition of our efforts to provide a valuable service, including a free plan aimed at easing the compliance journey for businesses of all sizes. We’re committed to supporting the community in navigating these challenges and are always looking for ways to make our solutions more accessible.

Thank you again for your engagement and understanding of the importance of thorough GDPR compliance.

Best,

The Pandectes Team

Hello @Dascalargo ,

I´m agree with you. Did you find an app already that allows Google Consent Mode v2 (GCM v2)? would you mind telling me what app are you using?

Thanks a lot.

Hi all,

I’m trying to install CookieYes as I’m using it on other SquareSpace sites and works well, and see that they have a Shopify app so thought that integration would be easy. But I’m having a bit of trouble and wondered if anyone has managed to install it on their Shopify site?
The instructions on their site say to download the app in the Shopify app store, and then copy code in to the theme. But then the instructions below are on the (separate!) instructions to upgrade to GCMv2.

Caution

Prior to implementing Google Consent Mode through our Google Tag Manager template:

  • For existing CookieYes users, ensure the removal of the CookieYes Script from the head tag of your website.
  • New users need not add the CookieYes script to the head tag of your website.
Note: For Shopify users, ensure that the code is present on your website.

So I’m very confused as to whether you remove the tag or not…its very contradictory. Has anyone successfully installed it?
Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @algodeolga ,

The app I’m looking at now is Consentmo. I had some difficulty installing it the first time, but I think that was mostly my fault. I wasn’t in a place where I could focus and didn’t really have the time. I’m going to give it another try when I have more time.

Hi @annekaburrett ,

I received that email. I had test driven CookieYes before I decided to go with Shopify’s app (which they have since killed), and apparently was still on their list, even though I wasn’t using their app.

Have you had any luck getting it to work? What stopped me from installing was that the free version had, “100 pages per scan.” I had (and still have) no idea what that means, so I went with the easier option.

I’d love to hear what route you decide to take, and I’m sure there are folks lurking here who would, too.

Hi,

I’ve heard back from CookieYes and they’ve confirmed that for CookieYes on Shopify you need to install a shortened tag in the initial set-up <scriptsrc="https://cdn-cookieyes.com/common/shopify.js"> . And then the remaining set-up is done through GTM.

I’ve put together step by step instructions which CookieYes have confirmed are correct for Shopify installation and shared with my clients. If they are useful to anyone they are here.

I’m already using CookieYes on my SquareSpace site and it’s working well. The 100 page scan I took as a site with less than 100 pages, which my site does, so it’s OK.

I’m still hoping that Shopify update their native cookie banner to be GCMv2 compliant as I have other clients who have a lot of traffic volumes and would be costly to pay for a CMP.

OK, reinstalled Consentmo, went through setup, and client maxed out impressions permitted by the free tier in five days. At that rate, they’d need the Plus level. Not the fault of Consentmo that they have crazy-high impressions. I suspect this site is not going to find a free option, but, hey, I get paid for looking.

If their sales matched their impressions, it’d be a no-brainer. But they sell underwear, and I suspect their site has a very high percentage of viewers who have no intention of buying.
