App that provides detailed data about products in spreadsheet

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner needs to identify and fill missing metafield data across 5000+ products. Products added after February lack complete metafield information, causing filter issues.

Key Requirement:

  • Export all products with modification dates to identify which need data completion
  • Enable bulk editing of metafields via spreadsheet format
  • Systematically manage data entry across large product catalog

Solutions Offered:

Ablestar Bulk Product Editor (Available Now):

  • Just added ‘updated’ fields to export view
  • Can export products with metafield columns and timestamps
  • Note: ‘updated’ field changes with inventory adjustments; ‘created’ field may be more useful for identifying post-February products
  • Support team following up on existing ticket

Setary by Barn2 (In Development):

  • Spreadsheet-based bulk editing tool for Shopify
  • Will display product data with metafield columns
  • Currently in beta development
  • Offering one year free access in exchange for beta testing and feedback

The discussion remains open as the user evaluates which solution best fits their workflow.

Hello,

my client now has a store with more than 5000 products. I created metafields for the product data, and I was working on them till like February. Since then, whoever added the new products hasn’t always filled the metafields with data. So now they are missing, and the filter does not see them.

Is there an app (or some other way) that provides a sheet of all the products with a column for “last modified” or something like that? I basically need to sort the products by the date of the modification (because until February, the data is present). Then the client will provide the sheet to some people who will fill in the data, and then I import them (or they will do it directly in Shopify, I don’t know).

But because it’s a large number of products, I need to somehow systematize it, so can you help?

Thank you, Lukas

Hi Luke, I’m Katie from Barn2. We’re currently building a Shopify version of our bulk editing tool https://setary.com which will save you a lot of time. You’ll be able to view all your product data in a spreadsheet with a column for each metafield. That way, you can quickly fill in the gaps instead of having to go into each product individually.

While it’s not ready to test yet, I am happy to give you a year’s free access if you would be willing to beta test it and provide detailed feedback. Let me know if this is of interest and if so, I’ll get in touch when it’s ready for testing!

Hi @LukePokorny ,

It looks like you also reached out to our support about this, but I wanted to let you know that we just added the ‘updated’ fields to the export view in Ablestar Bulk Product Editor:

You can select those fields, along with the metafields, to give you a spreadsheet with the updated times + metafield columns for the client to fill in.

One thing to note is that the ‘updated’ field for a product might be more recent than you’d expect because it also gets changed when the product’s inventory level changes. For example, if you place an order and the quantity goes down, that will update the ‘updated’ field. In your case looking at the ‘created’ field might be more helpful, if you’re looking for products added since February.

Either way, our support team should be following up with an update on the ticket soon. If you have any further questions happy to answer them here or in the ticket.

Best,
Daniel
