AR 3D model upside down

Topic summary

A user is implementing AR functionality for lighting products using SketchUp 3D models on their Shopify store. The core issue: when viewed through AR on iPhone, the light fixture appears upside down.

The dilemma: Rotating the model in SketchUp to display correctly on the ceiling in AR causes the product thumbnail image to appear upside down on the website.

Attempted solutions (all unsuccessful):

  • Adjusting axes orientation in SketchUp
  • Testing different 3D file formats
  • Exporting from Blender instead of SketchUp

Current status: The issue remains unresolved. The user is seeking workarounds or solutions from others who may have encountered similar AR orientation problems with ceiling-mounted products.

An image showing the upside-down AR preview on iPhone is included in the post.

Hi All

We are looking at putting our Sketchup 3D models on so our website visitors can use AR to see the size of our lighting in their space. I have made a test here and when used on my iPhone the light is upside-down. I can rotate in Sketchup and get it to go onto the ceiling correctly, however then the thumbnail is upside-down.

Here is the test page

Things I have tried:

  1. Changed axes in Sketchup

  2. Tried various 3D file format

  3. Tried exporting from Blender as well

Has anyone ever found a workaround on this?
