Are additional verifications needed with non-signature Shopify POS?

I’m aware that with Shopify POS signatures are not required (https://news.shopify.com/signature-not-required-faster-checkout-on-shopify-pos).

What’s this mean for other security measures. Should users check ID’s and other verification methods to avoid chargebacks?

Lastly, can this feature be used with a call in customer? I want to say yes, because what’s the difference between that and an E-Store sale?

Yup I would. Shopify gives the free order risk analysis tool, but it only takes into account the metadata around the transaction. The algorithm considers the physical distance between the customer’s shipping address, billing address, IP address and if that credit card has been used recently.

However, perfectly normal orders come from customers while they’re traveling far from home and shipping a gift to a friend or family member. Worse, criminals know this is the game and they VPN as close as they can into the billing address area to trick the algorithm.

The more evidence you have on your side, the higher chance of beating the chargeback.

You can capture the customers’ ID & signature with Real ID on the Shopify App Store. It’s a post-purchase app and you can trigger ID checks only on high risk orders or certain products & collections or even to a threshold on the total order price.

We take care of collecting and storing this information securely, and you have bullet proof evidence that the credit card holder is the true owner because you have their real government issued ID to prove it.

I would assume so, but the downside is you’ll miss out on the customer’s IP address. This will make the Shopify order risk algorithm less accurate without that datapoint.
