Are Landing Pages With Custom Domains Possible?

I’m working on a project for a client that would like to have their main store continue as normal, but add a custom domain for a couple of landing pages. This would be done for separate products they are testing out ads for and want it to look like a different sub-brand. i.e. MainSite.com goes to the Shopify homepage and SubBrandSite.com goes to a specifically designed landing page for that one product.

This can be done by forwarding the SubBrandSite.com URL to that landing page via the Domains area of Shopify, but it then no longer shows the secondary domain. It displays a mainsite.com instead.

I could use a third-party domain and mask it. That isn’t very slick looking.

I could host the third-party domain on an external hosting account and embed the product via the Shopify shopping buttons but that isn’t very elegant.

Does Shopify not support this basic e-commerce domain name strategy used on other platforms? Or am I just missing something simple?

“For all domains that are connected to Shopify, they are connected to the entire account rather than a page or collection in particular. There are pages and collections for your website that are created within your account, but the domains are connected with the account in general. For that reason, there isn’t a way to connect an entirely different domain to a separate collection on its own.”

This is a disappointing answer. Has this changed since 2019?

How can such a basic e-commerce marketing function not be supported by such a big company?
