Are line item properties restricted for dev accounts?

We’ve setup a dev account that we’ll eventually hand over to a client, but there’s one key feature we can’t test (or is failing): line item properties.

We’ve used themes with the standard ‘order/gift note’, themes with ‘line item property’ that can be added to the product page, and apps that can add line item properties. In each case the line item property is visible during the checkout experience (including the checkout page and order summary page), but the line item property is not visible in the email notification, backend order details, or customer orders area…all three of which are critical for us to confirm works before handing it over to the client.

I can’t find any documentation that states dev accounts are restricted in this way, so I thought I’d reach out to this forum. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is it expected (and will be ok once converted from a dev account) or is this some new bug (or maybe something wrong with my setup)?

I’d love to be able to test line item properties before the site goes live. I know I could do this when soft-launching, but doing it before handing over the site would be ideal (as then we still have control over the test gateway setup).

I reached out to Shopify and they confirmed that this should work - having a ‘dev’ environment has no effect on line item properties.

With this insight, I temporarily hid one related app that I had installed, re-tested, and confirmed that the line item properties were now working.

As a result, I’ve confirmed that line item properties work fine in a dev setup.

I’m keeping this question live in case it helps others.

Moral of the story: If something doesn’t work, first try turning off recently added apps.
