Are pages redundant after the Online Store 2.0 upgrade?

With the OS 2.0 upgrade, we are able to create page templates and add sections to these templates directly from theme customization which keeps the layout and content in line with our website. After making the template, I usually just create a page for this page and link the page with the template. Usually, almost always, there is no content on the page itself, so I make it invisible from the template options. Every content I prepare is already added to the page template, with the help of sections, which makes me question, why would I use pages?

One answer that comes to mind is when you change your template, pages automatically populate the templates you associate them with. But I don’t know how would this work practically. How close would your HTML changes to a page look on a page template, how close would your theme be with the Custom HTML you add from a page? I am not very well versed on HTML, so maybe there is a use case, but I don’t understand know it yet. Please enlighten me.

Also, what are some good examples for the usage of the pages (not page templates)?

I am new to Shopify, thanks for the answers in advance.
